They need to win it next year or next or father time may pass them by.

A couple more years but as we saw with the Flames it closes real fast once the core gets in their 30's. The Flames window closed when Iggy and Kipper were a few years over 30 and didn't receive any help from a young infusion of talent. Looking at the Canucks prospects they don't have much help coming and like the Flames will lean on their vets too deep into their 30's. Most of the top teams have a good balance of veteran and young talent.

The Canucks have to move a goalie by September 2013. However, I think they need to address the defence before the centre thing. They've lost Salo and Erhoff since their cup run. They've replaced them with Garrison, Tanev, and more time for Ballard. They can afford to wait for Kesler to return. They cannot afford to go into the playoffs with their current defence.

You seriously think anyone around here took Kesler in their pool for a 48 game season?

I think Gillis has made mostly bad moves since taking over as GM. He has been praised by some media for the Canucks being a good team, but really every good player they have was pretty much there before Gillis was. Nonis gets very little credit for his time as GM. Since Gillis came in he has traded for Ballard (terrible), given ridiculous contracts to Luongo and Garrison, traded Hodgson for Kassian, let Luongo be captain, and drafted poorly.
Didn't he win GM of the year award or something?

The Canucks are in a considerably worse situation IMO. Not only is their core getting older, but they're in cap trouble. Mistakes include:
Burrows: He's 31 now. His raise to a 4.5 mil cap hit and 4 year extension kicks in next year. He already looks like he's taken a step back this year.
Booth: 2 more years at 4.25. There's a reason Florida was so eager to get rid of him.
Ballard: enough said.
Garrison: 4.6 mil x 6 years for a guy with one good season. That good season was on a Florida team where everything seemed to go right for everyone.
Luongo/Schneider: I think everyone knows enough about this already. Signing your backup to a multi-year deal to be a starter is always sketchy. That Luongo contract is terrible.
Expect all of Higgins, Hansen, and Raymond to walk after demanding more money.
The team is in trouble. At the very least the Flames always had space to bring in FAs.

I picked him up on waivers & put him on IR.
Now I don't know if I should drop him or not since we only have one IR spot and I'm not going to be dropping Malkin

Would've been a better pick than Kyle Okposo

They need to win it this year or next. If not, they may just miss their shot.

2011 is the one and only shot for this group.

Yeah it's not a problem to have some key contributors in their 30's but when most of them are you are in a world of hurt especially when they are locked up long term. The Booth, Ballard, Garrison acquisitions are head scratchers given that Gillis only had to look to Calgary to see that Panthers are amongst the worst teams in the league from which to poach talent as it appears easier to produce in a weak defensive division in a market where there's no pressure from media and fans.

Garrison looks to be rounding into the player Gillis thought he was. Booth and Ballard, I agree with you.

Stare at the Sedins, always at the Sedins. One Sedin for each eye.
