There's a few out there. There's AMA, Rainbow... just look up the yellow pages.
It all comes down to price. Some of those shifty driving schools are a little sketch and I would probably stay away from them if you're a first time driver. Their cars seem to be junk. I went with AMA and drove a new civic my first time. My friend went with this asian instructor and could barely understand him and had a car from the 80's that didn't even have power steering.
For me, I was pretty experienced with driving so I didn't really need to learn how to set the mirrors, how far to sit away, how to properly turn etc. But if you're a first timer, I think go with the more reputable companies like AMA and rainbow.

I had a great experience with Rainbow Driving. They are based out of the NE I believe but also run a class in Brentwood, if that's closer for you. It's much cheaper then AMA and the girl I worked with was great.

My wife went through CAA/AMA on 17th and had great results. New car, good teacher (he was actually a race instructor in Edmonton for a while). It cost her a bit more, but I got a discount through my insurance when she became a second driver. Because they're accredited through the insurance company, they didn't charge her new drive rates, and evened out the first year over 3, which brought down the monthly payments.

I did it through my school but I forget the company name. (Was near the park)
I would suggest AMA though, they have brand new civic's and I hear they are good. I drove around in an old civic when I had my driving sessions.

Mod edit- bumping a 4 year old thread with a link looks pretty spammy.

Perhaps i'll just stick to reading posts. Not sure what I did or how I got a weird font.

Is there a place in Calgary where they teach driving manual transmissions? Id love to have my wife learn, but for the good of our marriage, I cannot be the one teaching her, and not on my car.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I'm also looking for recommendations for a driving school. Have tried AMA and had communication issues with the instructor (i.e. he couldn't really understand what I was saying and vice versa), randomly rescheduling at last minute, 45 minute classes instead of an hour. Just frustrating. Is Young Drivers of Canada still open in Calgary? I tried to contact them but no luck.
