One of the greatest comic book series of all time comes to tv in two weeks. There was a lot of concern about Seth Rogan and his frequent collaborator Evan Goldberg being involved, given their comedic background. However the trailer looks great, if sparse on details.
I'm a little worried that AMC won't do it justice, this really needed to be on HBO but if they adapt it properly it could still be great. At least AMC doesn't go light in the violence. Only sex and language.
Garth Ennis, the writer of the comic, wanted it to be straight adapted. One issue per episode. However from what I've heard it has already been changed significantly from the comic. That's all I'll say about that.
No Spoilers from the comic books please!!!

I had no idea this was happening. But I agree, I'm skeptical. Especially given AMC's aversion to naughty words. This was an HBO series waiting to happen.

The casting will make or break this. Also there is a looooooot of touchy material in the Preacher novels (even for the 90s), so this could be a miserably tame adaptation (violence aside), or it could push the boundaries of TV.
If the answer would spoil it then don't bother, I will watch a couple to make up my mind. I am just not a fan of quasi-religious/evil spirit type stories.
From the previews I get that it is a Comic, but I don't want to poke around the internet too much, incase I spoil the show (much like TWD, I don't google that #### either).

It would be near impossible to describe the type of show or genre. It was always meant to be genre bending.
I'd say it'll be kinda dark with some really effed up storylines, characters, villains etc. Should have lots of violence.
It definitely doesn't meet many horror aspects so don't think of it as some evil spirit possession type show. It'll have dark subject matter but not what I'd call horror.
No real spoilers, but just in case.
Spoiler!
It will have religious aspects (god, angels, religious orders etc), some western type stuff, a bit of supernatural (vampires and such) but should mostly be a violent dark drama with funny parts.

I've never read this before and the trailer piqued my curiosity so I went to check it out and it appears that they just released Issue #001 of the AMC edition, whatever that is.

They sell it at chapters in six volumes. They're about $22 per book. Also,

Premiere is tonight. God I hope it is good. I know the first episode won't necessarily be the defining moment of the whole series but this has so much potential.
