Yep - there is an agreement between the US states and Canadian provinces and the auto manufacturers to all have the same sized plates (or at least plates that can be mounted in the same spot in the case of NWT).

Montana has hundreds of designs from high schools to colleges to quilting clubs. Proceeds go to the state and the plate sponsor. That might be a bit excessive, but certainly something I think Alberta should look at.

That option is coming according to the Herald article:

Although only one plate design will be chosen for general use, Albertans will also be able to buy some specialty designs to be introduced later

Also suggests they will dump a slogan completely in lieu of a government web address:

Apparently there won’t be a new slogan, however. The plate will simply show “Alberta”- and perhaps the government web address, a trend being adopted by several U.S. states.

Personally I always liked "Wild Rose Country". I hope they don't go for some "heart of the new west" type of crap.
I also really hope they don't go the cheesy illustrated route that you see in the States where you have 500 things happening on the plate. Keep it simple please.
Personally, I would love to get an old-school yellow/black plate. And if we could get a wide-body Euro size one, that would be awesome.

^ Or god forbid those repulsive newer BC plates. A license plate shouldn't be a high school art project.
Also... lol, replace that dreaded "wild rose" moniker with a brazen ad for a government (read: Tory) website. Brilliant!

Please don't. Not that I am trying to take anything away from your service to our country- it's just that I like the current trend where a veteran plate indicates it's an old dude driving; and to watch out for random driving patterns. It always throws me off to see a young person driving a car with vet plates.

Anything with a # would be great. Perhaps something unique like #albertaStrong?

Come on now. The website for the Alberta government is no more a partisan PC site than the Government of Canada homepage is propaganda for The Harper Government.

Agreed. Especially "#AlbertaStrong", which would also be an entirely embarrassing thing to use for multiple reasons.

Lame sauce. You should be able to buy a protruding mount to show a European style license plate.
Somehow people can get away with truck nuts and furry animals mounted on their cars, nothing wrong with mounting a much classier option to the vehicle.
