this should be great for Soccer and College Football, I had hoped with no Hockey they would be picking up a lot of ESPN stuff and it looks like this is it

If they can ramp up their football / EPL / MLS coverage, I'd be interested.
Also, please show more rugby.

Really those Leafs games are more valuable for them than the regional rights for all 82 Flames, Oilers, and Canucks games combined. Sad but true.

They could probably shutter ESPN Classic and move the historical stuff to the "main" channels as well if they so choose.
And as far as hockey goes, I would bet on one of these TSNs hosing an NHL Network-esque highlight and panel show every night from 5PM to midnight. And since Rogers is taking over the NHL Network, I'm betting TSN will kick Sportsnet's ass on that one. (Hosted by Duthie, MacKenzie, Dreger, etc.)

They did get NFL rights didn't they? Wonder if we'll get 5 games a week through this.

Well I don't know if it's just me but half the time tsn2 airs pure crap half the time. Replays of cfl football, hockey games that happened an hour ago and top 10 moments. What the hell are they going to play now?

Separate Sportscentres dedicated to individual timezones (Maybe one that finally caters to Alberta?), multiple consecutive broadcasts of things like the tennis grand slams, and a lot of ESPN content, it seems.

The thing to remember is that the extra capacity isn't really intended for around the clock programming. Even their press release suggests that there will be plenty of SportsCentre looping like we get now.
The big thing is live events. Even with 50% of the Premier League rights, they are often unable to show all of the games at once on their current channels (because there are multiple games on at the same time). They have been streaming the additional Premier League games on their web site already.
Even things like MLS have been hard to balance this year on their existing channels. They have boasted that all Vancouver Whitecaps games would be on TSN, although so far 2 have been on CTV BC (which is Bell, but only available regionally), and another they joined at halftime because of some Nascar race. Granted, they're still balancing NHL at the moment, which they'll always give top priority to, but there are times of the day where they simply can't carry everything that they want to live.
The fact is, without the NHL (nationally), they're going to have to carry a more diverse lineup of sports that could potentially conflict with each other.

I got Sportnets World for the soccer but have also found myself tuning in the Rugby -still not sure exactly what's going on but it's interesting to watch.

TSN owns NFL rights, they just sold games to Sportsnet this past season and from what I understand that will stop next year.

A bit old, but TSN has the rugby world cup for 2015 for those that like the hooligan's game that is played by gentlemen (and gentlewomen).

Lot of people piling on TSN in this thread, but ask yourself this: who would you bet handles losing hockey better? Sportsnet or TSN?
The guys at Bell are good at their jobs; they'll have to be creative, but I can see them weathering this storm and making a triumphant return in 12 years. Better they go big and expand when everyone thinks they should contract. Keep the focus on them, despite the loss of the NHL.
Good luck to them, I hope it works.

Not to mention the fact that having extra capacity will actually help them obtain the rights to more sports and events. The pile of cash is one thing, but actually being able to deliver the product is vital to both sides as well.

there are plenty of sports other than hockey available and I for one am hoping that they pick up Serie A soccer as HD coverage for that has been lacking...
with the caveat that I don't have to pay anything extra, or anything unreasonably extra.

I'd love to see more coverage of sports you see in the Olympics. Track and field, cycling, swimming, skiing, water polo etc. You see this stuff on CBC every once in a while, and it's surprisingly entertaining.
I'd also love to see more motor sports...ie WRC and V8 Supercars.
The one thing I really don't care to see more of is college sports. But I'm sure there are plenty who would, and with 5 channels, they have the bandwidth (if perhaps not the $) to make lots of people happy.

Hopefully this means that TSN will be fighting hard to get the Flames regional coverage with the Sportsnet deal is done.
