Default TSN announces 5 national feeds

http://www.tsn.ca/toronto/story/?id=451378

Quote:
To be branded TSN1, TSN2, TSN3, TSN4, and TSN5, all five TSN feeds will be available this fall. All TSN feeds will also be available to subscribers both online and through mobile devices via TSN GO. Further details, including information about participating TV service providers and channel placements, will be announced in the lead up to the launch.

Trying to compete with sportsnet I imagine.

I wonder if their goal is to go as high as " ocho" and cover dodgeball?

Just in time for pretty much no hockey coverage. This would have been handy when they had games on their main channel and even their secondary channel and their first game of the doubleheader ALWAYS went over and we missed the first bit of the second game (almost always a Flames game)...now, this really doesn't matter.

Not surprised as I'm sure having the ability to broadcast a ton of games at once was a big draw to the NHL, but not sure what they are going to fill this with for the next 12 years, particularly in the summer since they don't have MLB rights. In the winter they can go hog wild with NBA/NCAA/CFL etc. In the summer, I'm not sure that 5 channels showing poker is the going to be a giant success.

Depends on whether you subscribe to the package/tier these channels will be on.

At any rate, looks like TSN thinks it can do alright in the winter with the NBA and NCAA. Probably a lot more soccer as well.

Not sure what they will do in the summer as several good sports for extra coverage are already owned by Sportsnet, primarily tennis (outside the slams), major cycling events, etc. Though I suspect some of those properties will be heading TSN's way as contracts come up. Perhaps we will get all Aussie Rules Football games (and the like) per week instead of one or two.

And, replays, replays, replays. Missed the Stamps vs Lions on TSN1 at 7PM? Don't worry! It's on TSN2 at 11PM, TSN4 at 3AM and 7AM, and TSN5 at 10AM, 2PM, 5PM, 8PM and 11PM.

A few years too late. If I need to subscribe to get them and pay more, forget it. Too bad they couldn't have done this 5 years ago when they still had a lot of hockey games to show.

With out NHL and very little NFL, I would not be watching any extra TSN.

No kidding. Is this another thing to raise the cable bill? As much as I love sports, i might have to pass on this one if cable bill goes up because of this.

There's also a question of saturation. Already there are two TSN channels and three Sporstnets. Then you get into the specialized sports channels and overpriced junk like Sportsnet World.

Honestly, do we really need eight general, national sports channels?

And my womens field lacrosse.

Now I am set.

I wonder whether these will actually be cable channels or just online channels. I could see some or all of the new ones being online only feeds.

Which, of course, will probably leave Shaw and Telus customers in the dark, because we don't even get access to CTV GO and TSN GO yet. I'm sure that this will pressure Shaw and Bell into making a deal though.

They just lost the rights to the biggest sport in the country, what perfect timing they have!

Hopefully they try to get the rights to some other hockey then... maybe a lot more AHL or NCAA hockey games? A full slate of NLL lacrosse?

They better be working on some great deal with the NFL in order to fill air time. I would really love to see them start carrying a full range of games on Sunday so that a consumer doesn`t have to turn to NFL Game Ticket.

They still have nearly 100 Leafs and Sens regional games, probably 50+ Jets games and some number of Habs games though. Doesn't do us any good, since we will be blacked out, but TSN won't be hurting for hockey.

How are they gonna fill five national stations with content? Seems like overkill.

Sens, Leafs and Jets games? And you think they won't be hurting for hockey?
