Kevin Hayes signs with the Rangers
interesting. Chicago will get the 54th draft pick in 2015 as compensation if they don't trade his rights and let him sit it out till August.
Guy Flaming @TPS_Guy
As per @CHN_AdamWodon, Boston College senior Kevin Hayes won't sign with Chicago, He's UFA Aug 15th. Will #Flames reunite that entire line?
UPDATE post #1487 (August 20): signs with the Rangers.

Lets not rebuild college lines please. I wish prospects would sign with the teams that drafted them. I do see why a forward spot would be an impossible mountain to climb in Chicago though.

Sign him because he's a good prospect not to re-build lines. I think it is naive to think if the Flames have interest it is to re-build the line.
I wish prospects would sign with the teams that drafted them too - but they don't always - and this is part of the game now. The Flames have been burned by this in the past, so it is only fair that if there is an opportunity to get a prospect for a lower value then you do it.
The Flames may have a leg up because of relationships between Hayes and his college buds. If so - take advantage of it.
The organization made a strong move to acquire Corban Knight for below value. More of those type of moves are welcome for an organization still relatively think overall on assets

Is Kevin Hayes trying to sign with Florida to re-unite with his older brother Jimmy?

this. People on here always assume he's just been carried by Gaudreau, but fact is he's a former 1st rounder, he's big and he'd fill an organizational need. He's not Hnat Domenichelli.

Hayes is like a Colborne 2.0 that unlike Joe, happens to be a right-handed shot. If the Flames dangle the proper bait in front of him and he signs, he'd be excellent as a 3rd line RW with Arnold remaining as his centerman.
I don't advocate doing the whole "rebuilding college lines" thing - but hey, it'd be goddamn awesome to visit Boston and have Gaudreau - Arnold - Hayes starting line. Just because.

No desire to reunite the BC line, but if the Flames think Hayes can be a useful addition on the RW (6-4, 201 lbs with skill) why not.
If Calgary is interested, hopefully he signs with the Flames in part due to the friendships with Billy & Johnny.

I would like to sign him for a couple reasons. Neither of which is to reunite the line.
1) he's a legitimate big-body offensive prospect
2) it would be somewhat of a coup and lend credence to what we're doing here.
I would feel a bit icky about it in a way. Unless of course it was mutual. I just know how angry I would have been if Johnny and Arnold had spurned us to sign with Chicago.

Agree with Jiri. Sign him because he's an awesome prospect with size not because we'd be trying to reunite that line.
You'd think us and Florida would be the front runners to land him no?

We are woefully thin on right wingers, especially those with any skills whatsoever. Add in his excellent size and he could be a perfect fit here. If he doesn't pan out, no big loss, just an entry level contract.

Hayes has a lot to bring to the table. Big player that can skate well and has some finish. I would be surprised if he doesn't end up in Florida though.

I don't think it would sit right with Burke just to sign him when he becomes a UFA. If we're interested, I think we would give Chicago the courtesy of trading for him.

A lot of these college rules are convoluted and confusing, but how does Chicago get a 54th pick? Does it come from the team who signs him? Not disagreeing, I just don't know the rules.

Hayes was a Tallon draft pick. Tallon loves acquiring his former players.

I agree with the above sentiments. I'm interested not because of the possibility of reuniting the entire line, but because he is a legit prospect, a former 1st round pick.
In addition, his brother who put up similar stats in his first 3 years at BC has seemingly transitioned well to the NHL.
Jimmy Hayes' PPG in his 3 college years:
0.36, 0.83, 0.85
Kevin Hayes' PPG in his 4 college years:
0.45, 0.64, 0.93, 1.63
I believe he only started playing with Gaudreau this season.
