Picked up a Marantz 6300 turntable (and a 1070 amp) today from an original owner who'd taken very good care of his equipment. $150 each. Happened to come with a new Ortofon 2M Blue installed too.

How come nobody told me this vintage game is like crack?

It just amazes me how gear made 40 years ago can be in such great condition so many years later. I'm signing up for some mechanical maintenance for sure, but I'm not complaining at $150.

I'm amazed with the resurgence of old Hi Fi equipment. There was a time when you couldn't give away stuff like that and it would often end up in second hand stores or pawn shops.

For a $150 each you got an awesome buy there.

There's a guy selling a Marantz 6320 (that needs some work) and a garage full of vintage equipment for $350 on kijiji. He's down from $400 already so he might come down further?

A very nice integrated on Kijiji right now. It's a steal at 120.00. I think the seller knows this, though, and wants a bidding war via text. Told me if I offered 160.00, it's mine. I told him it's not fair to the guy who offered 150.00 for it.

I told him he should put it on the auction site if that's the game he's going to play.

I had a similar conversation with him. Red flags all over that. Why sell for $160 when he knows it's worth $300+?

Scored an original 70s Technics SL-1200 on kijiji this weekend. It was filthy, the speed was way off, and the left channel was cutting out occasionally.

The speed was easily fixed with a couple drops of lube in the spindle and a helping of DeOxit in the 4 speed control pots (I've taken to calling this stuff "magic spray"). Rock solid now.

Obligatory TT porn:

As a side note I've now got two Technics SL-D2s in perfect working condition I'll be selling...

My jealously makes me irrationally angry at your wicked scores! Was there no dustcover? I wonder if the SL 1200 MKII cover will fit.

No it came with the dustcover, but one tab is of course broken. Otherwise it's in decent shape. Some scuffs but I'm going to give it the PlastX treatment soon to see how well I can clean it up.

It's a good score but if I'm honest, it's the result of opening up the kijiji app an irrational number of times per day!

I tried for months to get an SL 1200 MKII off Kijiji but people kept beating me to the punch or they would do the ol' sell to the highest bidder thing or somebody would drive to their house in the middle of the work day and offer more cash, etc.

I gave up on Kijiji but maybe I should try again. You can get a replacement tab pretty easily I should think. Let me know how the PlastX works. I have been thinking of headlight restoration kit on another old dustcover with minor scratches.

I also have another turntable dustcover I completely ruined trying to clean off thrift store price sticker gunk. I tried to dissolve the glue with varsol but it made the entire cover all foggy.

Scored a Thorens TD 166 MKII this weekend. Looks like it came out of the box a month ago. This one needed no work at all - seems to be running perfectly so far, sounds very nice.

Everytime you post, I click on this thread to suffer. Why?

Sigh...another kijiji find? Does it have the anti-skate weight on the string? What cartridge is that? Depending on the cartridge, that's about a $600 turntable on market value.

I don't have time to deal with Kijiji so I guess I shouldn't complain. I tried for months to get anything good on there and it was always already sold or or people without day jobs would always beat me to the seller and outbid me.

I did end up spending $500 on a Technics SL1200 MKII on Kijiji after trying about 8 different ads over a 6 month period before I was able to snipe one by sending an etransfer right away.

But you've got about $2000 worth of equipment for like $200 from everything you've posted so far...and it's rare near-audiophile stuff like the Marantz and Thorens with excellent cartridges as well. I just can't comprehend.

It's an old Grado MT+. Sounds almost identical to my Grado Prestige Black. (Still can't decide if I like the Grado sound or not...) Entry level stuff, nothing special. It did come with both weights though - I got lucky there.

FWIW, I miss more than I score. Same day I picked up the Thorens I was just a bit late on a NAD receiver for $15, and a Rotel receiver for $10!

How much stuff do you have now? I started collecting silverface and turntables about a year ago and have a bit of pile from thrift stores but most of it is not good stuff.

5 turntables (Marantz, Thorens, Technics), 4 integrated amps (Marantz, HK, Denon, Pioneer), 2 pair of stereo floorstanders (PSB), 1 AVR (Yamaha), and a 5.1 Paradigm system.

I'm far overdue for a downsize!
