Shaving Showdown: Harry's Vs Dollar Shave Club Vs ?
Hey all,
Thought I saw a thread about this before, but my search here proved fruitless. Anyone have an opinion on these two options (or any others)?
I did just find this LifeHacker review. Wonder what experiences CPers have had.

Thanks
IN ADDITION
- what's some of your favourite shaving/grooming products? (i.e foam, gel, shaving cream, after shave balm, moisturizers, beard oil, shaving soap, brush etc.)
(I actually switched over to shaving soaps with brush and quite like)

Dollar shave is cheap, but I definitely noticed lesser quality than the big brands. I cut myself more often with these than with Gilette.

Are any of these available in Canada anyway?

Buy a double bladed safety razor, buy a pack of blades and buy Proraso cream in a tube from Shoppers Drug Mart.
You'll get great shaves, and it'll cost you pennies per blade.

Dollar Shave is although the Canadian Version/Price. I didn't mind it but I went with the best blade which was $9/month I think.

I find I can get about a month to six weeks out of the Gillette Fusion blades before they start dulling and cutting me. That's shaving head and face every couple days. Is there really much of a cost savings for the cheap razors? The Fusion run about $3/blade.

I haven't used a regular blade shaver since I got a Philips OneBlade. It doesn't shave quite as close as a blade, but close enough to as not to matter for me, and has the huge benefit of no irritation like with a blade.

I've been using harrys stuff for about 18 months. Article hits the nail on the head, great blades but the shave products could be better.
Overall, I probably spend a bit more then I use to buying at a store but I like the convince of the mail service and schedule. As a result I never run out of products and I never get stuck with an old blade.
I also find there suggested quantities for schedules are a bit high. I stock piled shaving cream and had to dial that back.
I've never tried dsc

DSC is just a reseller for Dorco: http://www.dorcousa.com/
I don't shave often enough to justify a subscription, so I just bought directly from the source. I bought a package a couple of years ago and still have a bunch of blades left (as I said, I don't shave often).
It's not quite as good as the Gillette I replaced, and wears out a little more often, but for the price difference, it's easy to replace them more often.

Wow, I find I get about a week out of a blade. That's shaving every day mind you. I use the Mach blades. I've tried to switch to something cheaper but so far I haven't found another blade that works as well for me.

I've used both Dollar Shave and Harry's.
My vote goes to Harry's.

This, got my whole setup as a gift, blades cost me $18 for 100 and it's the best shave I've ever had.

I'm still working through a 100 pack of red personna's I got for $12 a few years ago.
My face is much happier since I switched away from cartridge razors.

Yeah, if you're shaving with cartridges, you're doing it wrong. Safety razors are the best.

I use Harry's. No subscription, I just buy what I need when I want it and it arrives in a couple days. Seems to work almost as well as my previous Gillette blades at a fraction the cost.

I've basically given up on clean shaving in all regards. It's a waste of time and money in my opinion. I bought a good set of clippers from a salon supply shop and just buzz my face down to whatever length or style I want and don't get anymore irritation from shaving.

When you guys shave with the safety razor don't you have to take much smaller strokes and be careful? I realise how lazy this is going to sound, but I just want to get it over with and that is really the only reason I've stuck with the cartridges. I have debated it though.
I use DSC and it seems fine. Cheap, convenient and the product seems reasonable enough for me.

I also use the safety razors. Bought a large pack off amazon 3 years ago. It cost me $20 and I'm about 1/3 of the way through the box.
One thing to think about is that many of your dull blades may just be dirty. Rubbing them across old denim will "sharpen " them for you. If you're paying $3 a cartridge, it's worth it.

I keep my blades in rubbing alcohol so they don't rust between uses and use my wrist to sharpen them (can also use jeans or an old belt).
I've gotten crazy mileage out of cartridge razors with this system (6+ months), but now I'm thinking I should upgrade my game to safety razors.
