Default Question about liability from fence company who hit sprinkler line

Moved into a new house last week, and am really enjoying the new space. Looking to CP for some advice on a recent development. Our fence needed to be finished (closed off) so that our dog could play in the backyard without getting out. We had a fence company come in and do one 5 foot and one 16 foot section of chain link. Today I turned on the sprinkler system and the fencer obviously hit a sprinkler line because water is gushing out of one of the posts. Not sure how much this will cost to fix, would the fence company be liable for the damages?

What does your contract say?

You might be in a tough spot if you signed off on something which limited their liability.

Pretty easy to fix yourself and probably a lot easier than trying to get the guy to come back and fix it.

Sprinkler lines are actually pretty easy to fix.

Just need to isolate the broken section, splice in new pipe and you are good to go.

$50 fix and a little bit of digging to expose the line.

Depending on how annoyed you are, it is probably just easier to fix it and drive on.

That's all great advice. I always worry a bit when messing with water as I'm not the handiest dude. I'll give it a shot this weekend

Make sure you dig up line first to know what size of pipe and connections you'll need when splicing. Then talk to the guys at the hardware store and they will point you in the right direction.

I dunno, I'd check with the fence guys first. Maybe they like their reputation and will fix it for you without a fight.

If the sprinkler line wasn't marked or flagged how would they know where it is?

Did you know the sprinkler routing before you contracted them to do the work? If you did, did you tell them there were lines located within the area that you were telling them to work?

fence guys might be more concerned about what it's going to do to their fence post and fence so they might come back and fix it for you. That being said, super easy fix.

dig out the slop, make note of the pipe size, go get a couple insert couplers and a few gear clamps, splice in some pipe. should take you about 5 minutes unless they poured concrete over top

I turned it on before they got to the house and marked off all of the sprinkler heads. Also showed the guy the schematics, I figure if he hit the line he probably would have realized and could have at least let me know
