was on final approach to Dubai's runway 12L at 12:41L (08:41Z) but attempted to go around from low height. The aircraft however did not climb, but after retracting the gear touched down on the runway and burst into flames. All occupants evacuated safely, no injuries are being reported. The aircraft burned down completely.
Will be interesting to see the findings. The aircraft should have had no issue climbing with the auto throttle activated and the TO/GA switch selected. Boeing recommends (and likely most carriers SOP's, particularly after the Asiana accident in SFO) that the AT be engaged at all times.
Av Herald statement above says the aircraft wouldn't climb (assume no positive rate) yet crew selected gear up ?? Wow.

Update on AvHerald, looks like a first responder died:
Quote:
United Arab Emirates General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) reported a firefighter attending to the fire, while saving lives, lost his own life. The director of the GCAA said: "I salute his ultimate sacrifice that kept many from harm’s way. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."
Tower had to remind them to put their gear down? Could suggest it was a rush, disorganized approach. Obviously too early to say, but this doesn't sound good for the crew.
