I think Engelland has Vegas written all over him. I believe he has an off-season home there and is exactly the kind of character guy a new team would love, especially if it's a young team.

Thinking Gaudreau was hurt is wishful thinking imo.

Guy showed no signs whatsoever of injury, just looked like the same player we watched during the regular season before his hand injury.

Not surprising he's going to the worlds.

One can speculate that his "near the top of the list" comment means that Vegas is his first choice.

The problem is Engelland's value to a non-playoff team is greater than his value to the Flames. He can get another 3yr 9 million dollar contract out of someone who wants a character guy to play 3/4 minutes while protecting their young players. while they miss the playoffs.

On a playoff team you need to overpay him at 2 million a season to be your bottom pairing / emergency 4. So unless he is willing to take 4 million instead of 9 million he isn't coming back.

As one of the most controversial signings when it happened it worked out very well for the flames and he earned all of that contract.

I'd love to have Engelland back I definitely think there is a spot for him. He probably is headed for Vegas unfortunately.

Versteeg is a priority though. He had a good year and a great playoff, and he's got an amazing attitude, as far as I can tell from the media. You need guys like that in your lineup if you go deep in the playoffs.

I'll be mildly interested in the worlds if Gio and Mony go.

Engelland quickly became one of my favorite players on the team. Seems like a real leader for the backend.

Gibson got in everyone's head haha.

Team shot 2% at even strength. Sure Gaudreau should have shot more but when absolutely nothing is going in you overthink it and try to make the perfect pass.

Dougie Hamilton says he hasn't thought about going to the World's. Says he hasn't heard anything. #Flames

Hamilton also says the leg laceration he suffered in March hampered him a little for the remainder of the campaign. #Flames

Dougie Hamilton says the cut on his leg was as close to an Achilles' tendon tear as it could be.. 2.5 inch gash above the ankle

Is this implying TC hasn't asked Dougie to play?

They are probably waiting to see what Gio says first.

I'm going to be more interested in seeing how Gaudreau plays in the Worlds than whatever Team Canada does.

That was his coming out party against NHL'ers 3 years ago.

Especially since he'll likely be playing with Patrick Kane. That is a duo that I'd love to see play together.

Frolik was dealing with a bad wrist since December... they recently found a small fracture so no World Champs for him this year #Flames

Frolik injury makes a lot of sense as to why that whole line seemed to fall off the map offensiveely

I was completely on board with brining Engelland back a few months ago, but now I am conflicted. On the one hand, since he is already 34-years-old I would be hesitant to sign him because I believe this summer he will count as a 35+ UFA. On the other hand, given his age I am no longer certain that he will manage to get many offers with any term.

I am now thinking that he could be had for a $2.0 m x 2 deal, but I am still hesitant.

I very much appreciate what he has done in his time with the Flames, but it might be time to move on.
