Yep. Go to work 70+ % of our days, for a whopping 2 weeks ‘off’ where really you’re checking your email at least a handful of times and knowing that your ‘vacation’ is just deferring your workload until later.

I work 4 days a week. How more industry hasn’t adopted this, I don’t know. But workers should be demanding it en masse. Less days commuting, less days child care and no less production because we all know what Friday afternoon looks like for half the people there.

#### the 5 day work week. That’s not living life.

You realize, June 30 is a day before July 1st, right?

Doesn’t seem to help fix this issue….

If you move it to January, I think there’s a day there too (New Years Day???), and just after two more in December, only a week with 3!!!

Also, I think they are using September 30 to honour Orange shirt day as well, so they want to have the day hold significance as well, it’s not just to give everyone a day off.

^ah orange shirt day, thanks. I was trying to remember if it was on that day for any significance but couldn't remember.

Either way, June needs a holiday. One a month sounds good to me

My response was a little sarcastic. Short of using the Jedi mind trick on every employer to recognize the holiday as you see fit, MLAs are the only ones who are going to be able to implement the kinds of changes you are seeking.

My thoughts on Canadian holidays are that I like days off from work, and I welcome them.

I’d wager the Legion doesn’t speak for a large number of Vets.

I will never work 5 days again. I make 80% of what my full time wage would be, and work 4 days a week. I love it.

"I do? Why? What did I miss?"

I think we need to segregate holidays. Its not so bad anymore, but man when the kids were young and you were just trying to take a chill day and they get a PD day or some other stupid reason for a day off.

Different holidays for grown ups and children! Get it done Government!

I have been taking mine for a long time.

Oh we're in a very similar boat.

I tell a lot of my clients that look to start their own businesses:

"Look, in school they tell you to start your own business, be your own boss, work your own hours! What they dont tell you is...do you know what those hours are? Its all of them. All of the hours."

So yeah, unless Holidays are on my calendar I miss them entirely. Especially without kids in school anymore.

I’d like to see one statutory holiday a month.

I think that people underestimate the positive value to mental health of getting down time.

That sounds like Red Star Communism to me.

You know what will help you work through those mental health issues? Work.

Now. Back to work!

Heh. I do know what you mean though. I’m a recovering (sometimes) workaholic and it’s only recently that I’ve really become aware of what this has done to me and the effects on others.

I’ve given a lot of extra time to organizations and generally only begrudge it when it’s expected.

I definitely understand workaholics.

When you're self-employed, especially when you're just starting out, its just the name of the game. Getting out of that tailspin is tough.

That's great that you do (aren't you a veteran?), but the VAST majority of people won't. Give people a day off and they'll take a day off.

Given the day off I would wager many more Canadians would attend a Remembrance day service than go to a church service on Christmas or Easter.

First of all, I doubt it. And second, what difference would that make? Those things are not similar.

I never suggested it was unanimous, nor did the article.
