The Russian's are going to lose their minds over this and I expect a pretty heavy handed list of demands to be delivered to Turkey today.

Uh oh....as I recall, historically speaking, killing Ambassadors tends to engender some fairly heavy consequences...

Even by the Daily Mail's exceptionally low standards, this is embarrassing.

Good thing he wasn't assassinated on the 16th otherwise he'd have been shot by a guy dressed for Casual Fridays.
... no I'm not making fun of the incident, just the headline.

Sure they can, its Russia, besides weren't it Turkish members of his own security detail that blew him away?
That alone allows Russia to blame the Turks.

Yeah, it's absurd to think the Turkish state had anything to do with this.

So if an American member of the Chinese ambassador's security detail in Washington shot and killed the ambassador and then shouted Islamicist slogans, it would reasonably laid at the foot of the U.S. government? And China would be justified in considering it a hostile action by the U.S.?

What the hell does that have to do with a good excuse for a bit of state ultraviolence?

Theres responsibility on that Government's behalf because they presumably vetted that person, but its not necessarily considered an act of war because that nation ordered the attack.
Two totally separate things.

Erdogan has also actively encouraged and pandered to extremists. His government has even financially and militarily supported ISIS. When one of those extremists, that your government has been propping up, ends up in role that allows him to act on his extremism it's hardly a shocker. The Erdogan government is riddled with extremism and sympathizers. It's only a matter of time until you see one of their own pull off an attack.
So obviously, this doesn't look planned by Erdogan. However, if I'm Russia I'm putting a lot of pressure on him to crack the whip on the islamists, and I'm using this incident to force Turkey to pull its support for ISIS and other rebels in Syria.

So, is NATO an obsolete organization?
If the accusations against Erdogan and his government are true, why has NATo not stepped up to apply any type of sanctions against one of its members?
Or is it outside of NATO's reach of responsibilities?
