Ward has made reference to Karlsson possibly being sent down on a conditioning stint.

I don't follow the Heat really but can someone tell me how they are doing and if they are in the mix for the playoffs?

Heat still have the 4th best win percentage in the Western Conference, despite a rough stretch where they've gone 3-6-1 over their last 10 games.

They are in the toughest division in the Western Conference, and because of that are currently in third place.

Here is a link to the standings: http://theahl.com/stats/statdisplay....s&season_id=37

With all the injuries, call-ups and even a couple trades, I'm surprised the Heat kept up the pace they had (until the last week or so), but Irving/Karlsson likely to come back in goal, the addition of AHL all-star Brian Connelly, as well as some other additions, hopefully the team gets hot again down the stretch.

I have to say adding Connelly will help the Heat out tremendously. Not every day you add an all star d-man in the league. Their power play should be blazing with him on it.

Connelly just won his fastest skater competition.

EDIT - Not only did he win fastest skater, but he also won his relay competition (I think that's what it's called). He didn't get the fastest time but he won the race.

Also, Wilson got fourth fastest skater.

Any more information on Aliu now that he is not a loaned player anymore?

This is what I posted in the Aliu trade thread in the FOI forum, so I'll just quote it here:

Quote:
I've been watching Aliu play both for and against the Heat for the last 3 years.

Against the Heat, our guys couldn't handle him physically. He was never a tremendous scoring threat, but he was always aggressive against the Heat.

With the Heat, he's been a bit more of a scoring threat, but again he's been a beast in most of the games physically. He had excellent chemistry with Bouma when he was here. He and Bouma would go out there and spend most of their shifts crashing and banging in the offensive zone even creating some odd chances.

Ward changed Howse's deeply-engrained nutritional habits. I think he can change or at least make huge progress on Aliu's deeply-engrained mental habits. If anyone is going to change Aliu, it'll be Ward. The Heat seem like tightly-knit team, maybe that's just what Aliu needs.

As for that hazing incident, I agree with the majority. I'm sure it was just Aliu not wanting to participate a ######ed homo-hazing incident.

So, the Heats D now consists of:

1. Connelly (25)
2. Wilson (28)
3. Carson (26)
4. Piskula (27)
5. Henry (25)
6. Breen (22)
7. Martin (20)
8. Sinkewich (26)

How long is Sinkewich going to be with the Heat?

Also, Breen looks to be the only D-man still on the team, that was here last season. Right?

Piskula was on the team last year.

Oh yeah.

He didn't have an NHL contract IIRC, was on an AHL contract or something like that I believe.

I hope this means that Martin gets more time in the lineup because he deserves it. He's a mean SOB when he plays and he hits really hard!

He's definitely fun to watch. It's just too bad he had an injury that kept him out for a month or so.

Looks like he was on a two way contract with a lower percentage when in the AHL.

Naw, that first contract was when he was with the Kings organization.

2009/10

Then his next contract is the one he signed with the Flames this summer.

2011/12, 2012/13

2010/11 is missing, and he played 71 games for Abbotsford that season.

Remember, gang: THE HEAT ARE PLAYING IN CALGARY SOON.

I just did a "Best" search and found 5th row seats for $35 each. Good tickets can be gotten. For very cheap.

Good for the Heat to get back their best goalie. Good luck to Irving.

Also, for those of you who can't make the game, it will be streaming online for free on AHL Live.

Kolanos just signed a 2 way deal and was called up the Flames today.

Even with a 2-way deal...would he need a clear waivers to come back to Abby?

How is Breen developing? I haven't heard his name pop up in any discussions for a while. Last I heard, it seemed he took a step back from last season. Is this still the case? Is he looking less likely to make the NHL?

IIRC he only has to clear waivers if he plays 10 games or more.
