Yeah I am not buying that goaltending is easily fixable. I'm not saying that BY can't do it but whether through trade or UFA the Flmes will likely be committing dollars and term to a starting goalie. They need to get it right. Locking up the wrong guy but might be worse than the current situation.

If Treliving hires one of Dave Cameron, Marc Crawford, Ron Wilson or Yeo as a head coach, count me in as a YES vote.

I just hope that Treliving hires a veteran coach. Like he said, this hire is an important decision. This thread could be relevant in a year.
Young cores sometimes don't buy into the systems of unproven coaches. Of course there are exceptions, but overall there's too much risk.

He said we were doing a good enough job dogpiling the OP, which is a pretty fair assessment

I saw the thread title from the Main Forum listing and saw "killer_carson" responded. I thought, "Good, KC is giving it to the OP". Then I opened the thread only to realize that KC started the thread!
Who the hell kidnapped killer_carson? Someone must have hacked his account. It's the only explanation.

It should be easy to move up from 30th best goaltending, but that's not saying much.

Yeah, I don't know if it will be especially difficult to find a solid goaltending solution this season.
At the time that Kiprusoff was an elite-level goaltender, teams required elite-level goaltending to win the Stanley Cup, and there was a premium on elite-level goaltenders.
It is much different in today's NHL, where good goaltending is often all a team needs, and there is a surplus of good goalies available. Last year, several teams were able to effectively shore up their problems in net, and with who looks to be available via trade or UFA, there is no reason to think that it won't happen again this summer. Calgary is one of just a few teams looking to improve in net, and there are already too many candidates for the available job openings. The Flames are actually in a pretty good place to find a starting goalie.

The upcoming expansion draft should make goaltenders available who normally would not be since teams will only protect their number one. It may make it possible to get a pretty good one without overpaying.

I wish the title of the thread was just "Treliving Critique" or something like that.
I don't see the extreme position of saying he should be fired any different than the opposite position that he is one of the best GMs in the league. Way too early to make either extreme proclamation IMO (2 sides of the same coin). He deserves some praise and some criticism at this point and the results of most of his actions will not be known for some time.

I second this.
One of the best managers in the entire league. We are so lucky to have him.

Ok.
Fair point.
He put the entire attention on him. He got a guy we wanted, worked hard to do it. Helped with a bit of luck, but the effort was there.
Glad he's around today.

Treliving is arguably one of the best negotiators and smartest GM's in the league. You've got to be nuts if you'd want him gone. GTFO.
