Seemed like Hartley had done all that he could manage. He got them to work hard but very one dimensional. I think he did a good job but time to get a guy in that gets a better overall game from the team.
Terrible decision, Hartley had nothing to work with.
I question why you think this. We're one of the worst possession teams in the league, and it's by design thanks to how Hartley coached. I loved Bob the man, but as a coach we've all seen his weaknesses in actual on-ice strategy.
I think this is a GM being proactive rather than reactive. I predicted Bob would be back in 2016/2017, but be let go halfway through the year. This move is bold, and forward thinking. Treliving now gets to hire his first head coach - something he has yet to do as a GM.
Go big Brad.

This season's shortcomings can largely be placed on bad goaltending (not Hartley's fault) but also on awful special teams-- which is in large part his fault. I think this might have more to do with the availability of Boudreau though
Very surprised, but I really respect Treliving for the decision.
I think it's so stupid how the standard operating procedure is to start with the current coach, even though the plan is to replace them as soon as things go south.
If the coach isn't in your plans going forward, then make the move and bring in the guy you want.
Rarely happens though. So again, respect to Treliving.
Mixed emotions. Love the guy and the character he has brought to the team. At the same time, the defensive scheme and the special teams made me physically ill.
Will miss him but I am pleased with the change (assuming a good replacement).

Once again, the Jack Adams is the kiss of death award. I thought he'd get next season, but if Boudreau (or someone else who has become available) is the guy Treliving wants, you have to strike while the iron's hot.

For people who thought it was going to happen, but not so soon, what is the benefit in waiting? I don't really want the team to be playing for a lame duck coach.
Is there anyone available other than Boudreau though that would make this move palatable? I can't see who else is available that would be better than Hartley
