Draft Pitlick and Outhouse

What could possibly go wrong?

Someone needs to take, say, a Pu and the Outhouse kid.

Taylor Raddysh and Laberge both are intriguing with our pick at 35. Both decent sized but not huge and putting up good numbers.

Thompson is the other one with his size and finishing ability.

Decent draft for RH forwards which is good since it is an area that is lacking for the Flames.

Would be awesome to be able to do something like:

2) Laine/Puljujaarvi
27) Thompson/Laberge
35) Tyler Benson
55) Sean Day

The 4 picks have the potential to add a good infusion of skill into our prospect base.

I have been thinking about the last two rounds.

Euro players are retained for 4 years, correct? I would want the Flames to always pick guys from Europe in those spots, and then invite guys they have an eye on that end up passing through the draft.

I wonder how many guys they put on their radar in North America for the last 2 rounds end up getting selected? Seems like sometimes teams have a 'target' of who they want, but don't use a pick on them anyways and invite them to camp instead, and then sign them.

With the 4 year rights on Euro-drafted players, it is a decent way to take advantage of the longer development cycle (usually) with late round picks anyways, without having to decide within the first two years. Might really be worthwhile for goalies and defencemen especially that have a longer developmental arc.

1-5: W Pierre-Luc Dubois
Unless the Flames move up in the lottery, Dubois is the guy I'd like them to draft. Will probably need another year of junior hockey, but could add much-needed size to the top 6 in a year or so.

(1-27: W Pascal Laberge)
If the Stars go to the Conference Finals, then either Tage Thompson or Laberge would be excellent additions late in the first round. Needs seasoning, but would add size and talent to the prospect pool.

2-35: D Markus Niemeläinen
Projects to become a solid two-way defenseman with size, and you can never have enough of those.

2-54: D Jacob Moverare
Another two-way defenseman. Already played a few SHL games this season despite being on of the youngest players in the draft.

(2-57: W Adam Mascherin)
Not the biggest player, but stocky. If you read scouting reports, you constantly read "great work ethic", which is always great.

3-65: C Mitchell Mattson
Long-term project with already great size.

4-95: G Veini Vehviläinen
Undrafted last year. Had a meh WJC and lost his starting spot during the tournament, but was very solid in the Liiga this year. Might be worth a shot in the middle or later rounds.

5-125: C Dylan Gambrell
Another overager. Had over a point per game for the University of Denver this year ... playing with Danton Heinen and Trevor Moore surely inflated his numbers, but in the 4th or 5th round, I'd be more than happy to add him.

no idea about the later rounds.

Agreed. I'm thinking

2) Laine
28) Laberge
35) Mattsson
55) Morrison
65) Day

That would have the potential to be a home run draft

I have a feeling someone takes a run at Day somewhere in the second round.

So I was planning on touching on Jordan Kyrou over the past few days, but kinda kept putting it off. After his 4 goal performance against he Danes, I think it's time.

Jordan Kyrou is a right shooting C/RW with some pretty good foot speed. Fairly standard size at 6' and 180lbs, with definite room for growth. Plays a strong two-way game with impressive transition ability. Reminds me of Michael Frolik.

Should be available with a late 2nd or early 3rd.

He is also almost entirely devoid of a shot.

Pros:
-Great outlet pass
-Excellent ability to pinch, then get back
-High end ability to make offensive zone cross-seam pass
-Thinks the game from the red line in very well

Cons
-Absolute muffin of a shot. I don't know who I could compare his shot to. Me?
-Liable to make frequent defensive gaffs
-Not terribly physical or tenacious

He's a bit of a project pick, and I don't think he'd be worth he trouble. His passing ability is his biggest saving grace.
Wideman has a good shot, he just can't hit the net anymore. So Clague skates better then Wideman but has no shot? Sounds more like Brodie. I'd take a flyer on him.

I hope he gets the start against kelowna on Sunday.

I would also have interest in Soy and Walker from the Royals

I've been impressed by the two Penticton kids Jost and Fabbro at the World Under 18. Another player who looks interesting at the Under 18 is defenceman Logan Stanley. (Ranked 20-30)Yeah he's big and mean at 6'7 but he skates well and seems to have some talent.

Default 2016 NHL Draft - Beyond Round 1.

Jost has been climbing up the rankings lately. I wouldn't put too much stock into the U18 as one good game can skyrocket a players totals. See Jordan Kyrou.

Fabbro has been solid in every viewing I've taken in. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see him sneak into the top 15.

Calgary has only one 4th round pick; their own.

The Flames will not receive Nashville's 4th, as Max Reinhart did not play enough games for them.

The 4th from Florida in the Hudler trade is for 2018.

I'm getting really nervous that Tage Thompson won't be available by the end of the 1st. He seems to be gaining a lot of traction lately.

Kristian Reichel (Ex-Flame Robert Reichels son)

Dear God no!!! Stay far away from anything associated to Robert Reichel. One of the biggest whiners to ever put on a Flames jersey.

Is there anyone in the 2nd round we could take that could be a homerun pick like subban and letang was in the 2nd round?
