NBC News has fired a producer following a probe into its broadcasting of a misleading edit of an audio clip of a 911 emergency response call during coverage of the Trayvon Martin shooting, two sources at the network said.

The edit made it appear as though Zimmerman told police that Martin was black without being prompted, when, in fact, the full tape reveals that the neighbourhood watch captain only did so when responding to a question asked by the dispatcher.

This situation is not nearly as evil and black and white as was originally being advertised. Another example of journalism and facts being sadly disconnected.

Nope, I'd say it's more black and non-white.

Zimmerman's legal team has seemingly dropped him as a client because he hasn't been in contact with them since Sunday (a day and a half?). Is this normal in legal cases, even of this magnitude? I mean, it's only been slightly over a day. The lawyer seems to chastise him publicly, saying he can't have a client that doesn't stay in touch.

This thing just keeps getting more and more bizarre. The lawyers say Zimmerman called the police himself, which they obviously advise against.

i love the "good instincts" quote. obviously, zimmerman's instincts were poor since martin was not in the process of trying to commit a crime when he started following him. if his instincts were good, martin would have been attempting a crime. as far as i am aware (correct me if i'm wrong), there is no evidence that martin was planning on commiting a crime that evening. dumbfounding.

This is a side issue to me.

People are suspicious of others on a routine basis all over America. (Homeland Security - See something-Say something campaign?)

The question is whether it was appropriate or not for Zimmerman to shoot Martin if he was on top of him giving him the ground and pound.

This whole thing bothers me because at the very least, there should be a grand jury hearing on this and not even that is happening. The media has basically ruined any chance of a fair trial now anyways I suppose.

I thought that the Grand Jury had been scheduled to review the information on this a few weeks ago, I hadn't heard anything since that announcement.

hmm

Grand Jury canceled, the prosecutor will decide herself if there are charges warranted.

I guess because a grand Jury is made up of citizen's there was probably a question about the impartiality of a gand jury seating in this case

Seems some think he may be thinking of fleeing, or already has. From what I'm reading, this may prompt an earlier arrest of him if they believe he may be of risk to run and hide.

Maybe that whole donation campaign of his a few days ago was a way to get some funds to get the hell out of dodge.

I don't think there are any restriction to him traveling, he hasn't been charged, after the police investigation he was let go.

Right at the moment he's a free man.

Maybe and not to sound sympathetic, maybe he's freaked out by the Black Panther Bounty, Spike Lee's twitter getting another family threatened and a police car in that neighbourhood being shot up.

He did try to contact the prosecutor today, she didn't talk to him for legal reasons.

Who truly cares about the race card as this case should remind America that they need their gun laws changed, If Obama had the guts he would use this chance...sadly he and nobody ever will as their gutless to take on the (clears throat)... 2nd amendment.

If this is what it takes to get gun laws changed, than so be it.

But we all know it wont.

One dead and one fleeing. Awesome.

Just bring the Armageddon already, I'm so ready.

Let them stalk each other and shoot them up, and claim vigilante on each other until they smarten up. I'm all for it.

Why should there be a grand jury hearing? Not every case is fit for that venue.

At this point a grand jury, and really a jury trial period, will be difficult because the media has done such a remarkably poor job of reporting on this story. Good luck finding impartial jurors at this point. So I actually think just having the prosecutor looking over this is fine in this case. A grand jury investigation is typically pro forma in the US for a criminal case, so I was just hoping they'd follow standard procedure here. But obviously nothing about this case is standard.

Other than being an easy target, what should "the media" have done instead?

Well lets see....

-Initially skewing the perception of both (pics Zimmerman in a jump suit, Trayvon as a younger kid)
-Outright lying/manipulating (NBC audio tapes)
-Not letting due process occur and reporting items before they've been confirmed by either the prosecutors office or police

Outside of that the media has done a bang up job.
