I recall that the coach didn't let him go out on the ice. Don't know if that can be right but I remember someone saying that.
It would have been embarrassing seeing that pee streak following him onto the ice.
The Greg Gilbert point to Berube has he finally got out of the box, to stay on the ice was great. The refs tried to keep him in because his misconduct was almost over.. but they had to let him out.

Then Friesen...poor guy Friesen.
And to think he was once called "the toughest player not in the NHL."
I think one of the myths of that era is that the team was hard-working.
I found them to be both bad and lazy.
Sure there were guys on the 3rd and 4th lines giving it their all every night - but that's the case an almost every team.
But the so-called star players were soft and lazy - guys like Cassels, Bure, Fatty, Housley, Nylander, Savard and yes Theo either didn't commit off the ice, or on it.
It is no wonder they sucked so hard - they didn't have talent and the talent they did have was lazy.
Things got better when they started to bring in guys from other organizations who helped changed the culture - Warrener, Yelle, Conroy, etc.
In some ways the same thing needs to happen again.
Depends on what part of the drought you are talking about, I agree completely with parts of the Housley , Bure etc. era being lazy especially Housley, I couldn't stand him. ...but I thought the team worked hard under Brian Sutter for a season or 2...the year they finished 9th ,('98- '99 I think) if you assessed the talent of that team it should have been no where near the playoffs, that team was all hard work and overachieved.
I remember the 'dome recognizing that and giving them a standing ovation in the last game of the year for just being in the playoff race at the end despite failing to make it.
At the time of his signing, there actually was an article in Calgary about Hentunen that mentioned that his nickname is the "bull", but the writer wasn't aware that a lot of the Finnish nicknames are chosen because they sound funny, not because they're absolutely descriptive. So 'Joroisten Härkä' just kind of has an amusing ring to it. Janne Niinimaa was sometimes called 'Jäälin Jätti', which means the giant from Jääli, and he wasn't a very big player.

I remember buying nose bleed seats for dirt cheap and being able to move down behind the net half way through the first period. Lots to choose from back then.

Yes I remember the Sport Chek Zone tickets that were around 15 bucks a piece. Could get large quantities right before tge game started as well. Heck, when I called for seasons tickets before the 03/04 season the ticket rep simply said "where and how many."
I recall we seemed to also do well against a powerhouse Avs team. I think we had a 4 or 5 goal comeback win in OT off a Nylander goal. Patrick Roy also liked to give the puck away to our team for easy, empty net goals at times!

Every team who wins the Cup seems to have at least one of those guys. He's the one guy I miss the most from that 2004 team. Would run through a wall for his team, and inspired others to do so as well. Id like to see him coach one day.
Mike Keane was that guy for Colorado when they got him as a throw in for the Patrick Roy deal. I hate Rejean Houle so much.
Shocking the Flames might soon be as bad, while spending to the cap limit!!!
And that is exactly what made it more palatable then. You knew they were nowhere near the budget of the big market teams, and had a vastly inferior roster. It is easy to cheer for an under dog.
Now though, to be essentially a cap team for what? 6 years now, and to have not won a single playoff round? Leaves a bitter taste in your mouth. I believe it was coroporatejay that said once a fan could do a better job running this team, and when he got called out his response was priceless "I guarantee I could manage this team into 3 straight years without playoffs." or something of the sorts.
A 1-0 loss to Anaheim in November 1998...Me and my dad drove into town for that beauty of a game that summarized tenure as season ticket holders from 1996-2004.
EDIT: THe 8-0 home loss to the sharks in December 2000 was another beauty.
There was a few years where I couldn't afford tickets to go to games, and I hadn't gone to a game for about 3 years. I scored free tickets to see the Flames host the Kings. I can't remember the exact circumstances but the Kings needed a goalie and the Canucks were giving up on Felix Potvin, so the Kings traded a conditional pick to Vancouver for him. The talk was that Potvin had gone downhill so much that if he didn't do well with LA that he would be out of the NHL... in his first game with the Kings he shutout the Flames in Calgary.
