Default US Open at Bethpage

Just thought I'd start a thread for this tournament seeing as it starts tomorrow morning.

I'll be attending Sunday's final round, who do you guys expect to be left standing on the 18th?

I'm not one to bet against Woods, but Bethpage is a ridiculously hard course and the weather cold be a big factor. Mickelson would be a great story, but I'm not sure his head will be all there. I really don't know who too pick, but I'm certainly looking forward to an exciting tournament.

I caught a couple minutes of Rome today and from what he and someone were saying, the weather was really going to suck balls. Under duress, I go with Woods (and Woods goes with irons).

I think the course is going to be playing too long for many irons of the tee, but we'll definitely see a healthy amount of 3 woods. Forecast looks like rain straight through the tournament, should make it interesting, as long as the course can withstand the deluge.

I've got to pick Woods, but Phil contending would be great to see this week, and I'm not normally a huge fan of his.

I think Tiger will win the tourny but I hope Phil does (and trust me I hate Phil) but I think it would be a good story. Maybe even a final pairing of those two on Saturday and/or Sunday to make it interesting.

I am PVRing Thur/Fri/Sat as I will be on a golf course myself all three days and then will watch Sunday live. I love the majors!!!

If it's going to pour off and on then I'm thinking boriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing. I like seeing them fight through a tough course and a little tough weather is good. But when it's just changing the whole game then hmmm. I remember some British open like that and it was just silly. Ball blowing around on the greens and other such nonsense. I see play has been halted on the first day. Hope the weather isn't the story of the tourney.

Or better yet it pours for the next four days and they have to go with a playoff of those guys currently in the lead and Andrew Parr wins it for Canada.

It's going to rain every day, the question is severity. It looks like it should let up a bit for the weekend, but who knows. We've had rain here pretty much every day for the last two weeks with the exception of yesterday.

Tiger at +1 through 6, two strokes back, and there's a rain delay. Doesn't look like the players will get back out until late this afternoon, if at all today, since the course is unplayable. Could be in for a LONG weekend.

I wish I could get a text message on when the golf is going to start again.

Finished for today.

Quote:
Play in the 109th US Open was called off early on day one because of a waterlogged Bethpage Black course.
Officials suspended action after three hours and 16 minutes following sustained heavy rain before deciding no further play was possible in New York.
Half of the 156-man field had yet to start their rounds, with the first two groups out completing just 11 holes.
With heavy rain forecast for Friday, the second round is unlikely to be completed until Saturday morning.
Should the weather force any more delays, play could extend into Monday, which is usually reserved for an 18-hole play-off.
"The USGA is firm on this, that we will not determine a national champion until we play 72 holes," said Mike Davis, senior director of rules and competitions at the United States Golf Association.
"So if that takes us to Monday or Tuesday, whatever."

I'm about 10 miles form the course right now and there's no rain falling at the moment. If it holds off overnight the course should be good to go in the morning, and hopefully they can get through most of the second round before dark. It's not supposed to rain heavily tomorrow, 20% chance of precipitation, so the odds are good that tomorrow brings a full day of play.

I want to see Andrew Parr win the tourney at even par.

(Andrew is a Canadian golfer btw - had a stroke last year apparently).

Course is as easy as can be this afternoon. These guys like Weir with the late teetime need to go really low and get away from everyone.

The leader after round 1 could be -5 or -6 which is unheard of in the US Open.

----

Weir's getting alot of tv time cause he's the leader, he's got another birdie chance coming up

Dang he just lipped one for -5. Still firing them at the pins though. Putted for birdie albeit a long on the next hole as well. Wonder how many times he has putted for birdie today. There is an experience I've never had. I'm lucky to have a birdie putt nevermind have a whole round of looking at them.
