Default Odd problem with speakers

I have Logitech G51 speakers, and set them up when I got my computer, and it worked perfectly.

However, I recently reformatted my computer and now I am encountering a strange problem where all the background noises play at the right level, but things like speech or anything else is muffled and sounds like the background normally would. Any suggestions?

They are 5.1 speakers right? The centre channel (speech and other sounds that are supposed to be directed to the centre speaker) is not setup properly in your sound properties or soundcard setup.
