How do you think Craig Conroy did on the Chris Tanev trade?
Boomer: I think that much like the Toffoli deal, fans and media had themselves revved up to maybe get a first-round pick. So that was disappointing. Then the way the trade went down, it took a couple of hours to find out which Dallas prospect was coming back in the deal. Again, fans and media were revved up about which of the Stars’ top prospects it could be.
The Flames offence was sputtering and misfiring on the man advantage to the tune of having the 29th-ranked power play conversion rate heading into the All-Star break.
Enter Andrei Kuzmenko. Despite functioning as a cap dump in the Elias Lindholm trade, the quirky Russian castoff from the Vancouver Canucks has been a shot in the arm to the Flames man advantage.

What could have been: CGY doesn't beat SJS and ANA, we'd be drafting 5th right now.
Reality: If STL beats SEA and CGY beats ARI, we drop to 9th and still have enough games left to drop to 12th (if we win out and BUF NJD lose the one game they have left).

This is true, but still, this post-deadline tanking is one of the best we've ever seen from the Flames.
Much better than in 2011, 2013, 2014, and 2016, in which the Flames won many meaningless games down the stretch.
In 2013 in particular, they were passed by Nashville, Tampa, Colorado, etc down the stretch.
Down in Utah
The guys and I dig a city called Salt Lake
It's got the grooviest kids
That's why we never get tired of Salt Lake
And the way the kids talk so cool
Is an out of sight thing
And the number one radio station
Makes the town really swing yeah
Salt Lake City we'll be coming soon
There's a park near the city, yeah
All the kids dig the Lagoon now
It's full of all kinds of girls
And rides and we'll be flyin' there soon now
And girl for girl
They've got the cutest of the Western states
They got the sun in the summer
And winter time the skiing is great yeah
Salt Lake City we'll be coming soon
Salt Lake City we'll be coming soon
We'll be coming soon
We'll be coming soon
We'll be coming soon

Tanking isn't the right word to use when it comes to the Flames.
They're just not good enough to win most nights. Conroy didn't intentionally make them worse to try and get a higher draft pick. He just didn't let valuable assets go to waste and let them walk for nothing.

I just can't imagine grinding yourself into a hole like this.
Teams don't lose every game.
Since the trade deadline the Flames are the 29th ranked team with only Columbus, San Jose and Anaheim having worse records.
They could have had a 12-14th spot this year now it looks likely to be 8th and I'd guess 9th at worst.
Just pointless anxiety in my opinion.
