Dennis Wideman open to waiving NMC
Article here
Quote:
“If that’s something that (the Flames) want to do, then they can call and I definitely would be open to it,” Wideman said. “I think, as a player, you don’t want to be anywhere that you’re not wanted. So if they want to move you and someone wants to take you, then it’s nice to go somewhere like that if that’s the case.
“And if I don’t hear anything, then I guess I’m here.”
He hasn’t heard a peep yet. Asked if he’s been approached by Calgary’s brass about waiving his no-move clause, he replied: “No, I haven’t heard anything from anybody.”

Too bad Feaster wasn't a GM somewhere right now. Probably would be calling BT right about now...

^ Isn't he an adviser with the Lightning? And don't the Lightning need defense?
Edit: saw Ashasx's post, so nvm. Too bad

Feaster is in a community relations role with Tampa. Not hockey operations.

Say what you like about Wideman, but he isn't an idiot. He knows any chance of a contract next year will likely require him to move on to a playoff contender and chip in as a powerplay specialist/6th D. I think he could find a role with another team. Even if he rides the pine, it would be a shot at a cup, which isn't too likely here.

Getting Denis to agree to waive his NMC shouldn't be the hard part; moving him for anything at this point is.

Would he waive his NMC to go on waivers if we can't get anything for him?

I would think he would only do it to increase his chances of getting another NHL contract next year. A guy like Wideman could easily find AHL / Europe work if he really wanted it.
So I doubt he waives to get waived in turn. Unless of course the Flames and him expect him to get picked up.
Actually I'm surprised they haven't waived him yet.

at this point, getting a souvenir keychain and a few hot dog vouchers will be a win.

Barring an injury Wideman has more than likely played his last game as a Flame. I Also seriously doubt he gets moved by the end of the trade dead line. Even if a team is dumb enough to take a chance on this guy you may have to take on a bad contract in return. Only a few more short months and it's addition by subtraction. Also I would also be surprised if he is still in the NHL next season. I can see him on a few pto's next year but ultimately playing overseas.

He seems like a genuine good guy. His first season was decent. His second was good. His 3rd was awesome. Then the last 2 were a steady decline. I was someone who loved the signing at first. Didn't care that he got a NMC. But slowly but surely that NMC and his incident with Hernderson has hurt the team as time has gone on.
I don't hate him like some do. He's a cool guy and has been a good leader during the rebuild. I just want what's best for the team, and at this point sadly that means him not being in the top 6.
I hope he can find someone who can accept his contract and he can have a bit of a resurgence. He's got some good offensive instincts. It's just that for some reason he's lost them during the past 2 seasons. Hopefully he can get a fresh start somewhere else.

You have played the victim for about 3 years now and were doing it before you hit the ref in a blind rage. Don't tell me it wasn't deliberate. Your time has come so keep your yapper shut and go with your tail tucked you are a disgrace to this flames fan.
My opinion only.

Yes Dennis, you're so hard done by.
Still though, of he does get moved I'll try my best to remember him for 2015, not 2016

Will always be grateful for Wideman stepping up in 2015 with Russell and playing some great hockey.
Also pummeling Kesler.

I don't hate the guy, and he seems like a good dude off the ice. He was awesome for us in the 2015 playoffs after Gio went down, and I suppose I'll always have soft spot for him just from that season. But man, his play really fell off a cliff after that. He's too slow, makes really dumb mistakes, and he's clearly not part of this team's future. He doesn't fit in here anymore and it's time for him and the Flames to part ways.

Why does the "I guess if I'm not wanted" make you want him gone more?
He negotiated his NMC. Might have been dumb to give it, but certainly wasn't dumb for him to take it. If he sees the writing on the wall and is considering waiving it, that is the pro thing to do. The Henderson hit was terrible, and he paid a price. I don't see the victim playing that you are.
