Only problem with Relative stats is that they get a bonus when compared to Wideman.

Having a really bad bottom 4 defense doesn't make the 1st pairing better.

Sorry, I get turned around on this stuff still, sometimes.
Yes. Of 100 goals/shots/fenwicks/corsis/USAT/SAT, Giordano and Hamilton will be on the ice for 60 for and 40 against.

For the relative stats, it's a comparison of the ratio of goals for when they're on the ice versus when they're not on the ice. The Flames score 60% of the 5v5 goals when they are on and they score an absolutely miserable 38% when they're not.

Yes, this is also true, but they're first or second in all the raw shot metrics as well and 8th (as of today) in Goals for %. With respect to their team they're near legendary, but even with respect to the whole league they're still the best.

With Gio and Hamilton being so good, I don't understand why some CPers want to break up this pair and reunite Gio-Brodie just to get Brodie going.

Yes, Brodie is struggling and maybe could use a better partner, put I'm not sure I'd break up what seems to be, by multiple measures, the best pairing in the league.

Also, it doesn't seem like GG ever plans to play Brodie where he was stronger, on his offside. So it does seem to make Brodie look out-of-place with any other non-Gio partner he's been paired with.

Despite its issues our second pair and the Kulak version of the third pair are pretty respectable in corsi so they're not inflating the first pair's relative stats, and the two Engelland pairs have had high enough PDO that their GF% is respectable (though in the Jokipakka case, the PDO is far greater than the expected PDO).

And Brodie, while having a poor season in terms of low expected goals and low expected PDO, is yet unlucky on top of that.

The first pair is just, really good. The objective of relative stats isn't only to contrast them with the other pairings, but to take away the effect of average level of forwards and coaching systems. It's not perfect to use relative stats but they can be telling.

With those stats, sell when you can. Rebuild is never over until you're a cup contender, not a bubble team. There's only a couple of more years at the most before there's hardly any return.
