If they have only 6 years left, what an amazing the waste of money that $1B reno that completed in 2013 was. $1B for 10 years?

Strange situation, would be like Katz investing in CalgaryNEXT or whatever arena the Flames end up building
AEG (Kings owner) owns 50% of the arena the Golden Knights will play out of, and operates a number of other NHL arenas, including the Barclays Center.

I just saw that it came out yesterday that Dolan contributed $300,000 to Trump's campaign.

Makes you wonder if this is a "look at the left hand, pay no attention to the right hand" type situation.

I dont understand his motivation for investing in a rival team's arena. I would think he would want to put his money into a new version of MSG for his Rangers. I get that they all have a vested interest in keeping teams in the area as they're all such close proximity but if the Islanders left town would anyone in that area really miss them?

It's the busiest arena in North America and in a city of 2/3 the population of Canada. $1B in the big picture isn't anywhere near $1 billion in Calgary or Toronto, etc.

Why do rich people invest in anything? To get richer.

Dolan is just an investor in the Oak View Group, which was founded by Tim Leiweke (former President & CEO of both AEG & MLSE) and Irving Azoff (former CEO of Ticketmaster).

Here's a good overview of what OVG is hoping to be: https://www.forbes.com/sites/steveba...rld-for-arenas

It looks like they have a lot of sports & entertainment heavy hitters involved. Their "Arena Alliance" already has 22 buildings signed on, including 14 current NHL arenas: http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/J...s/OakView.aspx

The NYC metro area is huge and it's not like a new arena to serve that part of Long Island is going to have problems booking events or take events away from MSG.

Also, MSG Networks is the Islanders' regional broadcaster, so they already have a stake in the team's success.
