Use a ladder to get on to your garage, then pull the ladder up and put it on the roof of the garage, put the legs of the ladder on either side of the peak of the roof. This is stable. Also get a buddy to hold the ladder.
In another job I did this all the time alone, never fell once.

If you're this clumsy, should you really own a house?
Just kidding of course - longer ladder is probably the best suggestion. Send your least favourite kid up on the mission.

Call a roofer for a free estimate and get him to grab the drone while he's up there.
Just kidding. Don't do that, a-hole.

Along these lines, how about throwing a cat up there, and calling the fire department to get it down, and grab the drone while they're at it.

Buy an extension pole and a hook at any hardware store.
You can re-use at Christmas time for putting up Christmas lights.
I use one and buy the Christmas light clips that can screw/unscrew to the pole, and haven't used a ladder since buying it.

Was reading some home improvement forums and most of the pros were not big fans of throwing a ladder on a sloped roof to get to the next level, at least not without properly attaching braces to the roof to secure the ladder.
I've attached a couple pics to give a sense of the slope of the roof and distances I'm dealing with.

Ha! Another friend suggested the same thing, but then I found out that this only works if the cat is stuck in a tree. YMMV.

Does Home Depot rent ladders?
A bigass ladder at the back gets you onto the top part of the roof. That slope does not look too bad.

Ah I see. An odd roof line to be sure. I thought your garage can out with a peak from the house like this:
Is your neighbour's easy to get on? Maybe jump from his to yours

Find a roofer working in the area if possible and offer some beer or $20 and I'm sure he'd come down to get it for you.

all of these ideas are boring.
my suggestions are:
1. get the neighbors together, but them beer and then suggest making a human pyramid - what could go wrong with this idea
2. find an unused trampoline in your neighborhood and borrow it - perhaps you kid will find future fame as an Olympic trampolinist
3. bat hooks or a boomerang
4. a series pulleys and ropes
5. buy another air hog and tell the kid you saved it
I look forward to pictures of the human pyramid

Why don't you hire a trained Bear to climb up on your roof to retrieve your items?

What's cheaper, a ladder or a new drone?
I'd go with the pay-a-roofer idea. I agree if you're going to get a ladder up on the roof you want to nail down a 2x4 for it to sit against or something, I wouldn't trust the feet on shingles.

Or light your roof on fire (away from the drone).
Then you are justified in calling the fire department and no cats would be harmed.

I bet they'd be thrilled about that.

Step 1: Get in your car
Step 2: Go to Toys R' Us and buy another Airhog
Step 3: Profit!
Is that how this joke works?
I'm clumsy as well, and a chicken$hit, and there ain't no Airhog that could convince me to clamber up to that roof. Unless it's one of those cool Millenium Falcon ones maybe, but even then probably not.
