If Bluey and Bingo can share a room, that's all the parenting advice I need!

Yeah it’s anecdotal. What type of information would make you believe that there is a prevailing belief that children should have their own rooms despite psychological evidence suggesting that room sharing is positive?

Though I didn’t realize my parents were low income until much later in life so perhaps I have a bit skewed view.
I had to share a room with my brother growing up. Mean while our sister had a room of her own. We didn't agree and let our parents know. Years later my brother ended up building his own room in the basement. Our sister complained about that saying he got more privacy than she had.

All I said was that having kids share a room isn’t “failing them” and I don’t believe that would be the prevailing opinion in society, but if it is then frankly that’s absurd in my opinion. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a general consensus that kids having their own rooms is the preference of most people but that’s a far cry from characterizing not doing so as a failure.

There’s a lot of ways parents can fail their kids, providing a comfortable bed for them to sleep in at night in the same room as their sibling(s) generally isn’t one of them.

Keeping track of subscriptions can be a simple way to save a few bucks here or there. Trim what you don't need and keep track of potentially outdated ones. It's so simple to miss small payments nowadays. Amazon's Audible has been charging me for months now even after I got a refund and after I cancelled (then again via customer service). All these little subs add up each month

I can’t stand the rise of subscription pricing for seemingly everything. It’s just out of hand when basically everything has gone to a subscription model. Like car features such as heated seats that need to be part of a subscription? Come on.

And I think a lot of those things drive up prices and make life more expensive, particularly when canceling is difficult and if you do cancel it’s not a refund, the service stays in place until the date you’ve paid.

Yeah, its been floated as an idea. Car companies will make some options limited by time that they can turn on or off based on a subscription.
I dont think theyve actually done it yet though, i could be wrong. I see it as akin to Wendys doomed surge pricing.

That’s what I heard also, and once one company goes that route others will follow with other features.

You’re correct. I was coming back to edit my post but you beat me to it.

I am 40. Last year I split with my long term common law wife. I live in a nice central 2 bedroom apartment for $1,000 a month (Winnipeg). I also went totally vehicle-free after the breakup and decided to bike, walk and run year round. It’s saved me a ton of money and brought me a lot of fitness benefits and joy. I’m in the best shape I’ve been in since age 20 and love cycling so much now I just go back from a cycling tour of Southeast Asia.

I began self investing with my very first real paycheck 15 years ago. Many of my friends, family or work colleagues my age say there are interested in starting to invest for retirement (they have money) but rarely follow through when I offer to show them how. They constantly are getting newer vehicles, renovating their kitchens or going on trips down south though.

I’ve met fellow lawyers who have made 100k+ for 15 years in dual income families who tell me they have 0 dollars saved. It blows my mind.

I’m happy living what some would describe as a pretty simple life living in an older basic apartment with no vehicle (my hobbies are travel and sports/fitness). I think lifestyle creep (yes, there’s always a balance) is something that some people really don’t have a handle on - I don’t mean cutting out buying a coffee everyday, but I will criticize someone who constantly uses food delivery apps.

So many people don’t stop to think about the financial ramifications of certain purchases - ie vehicles. For others, there’s the inescapable truth that it’s expensive raising kids these days, houses cost a lot more and inflation is a killer.

^I know a chiropractor like the lawyers you know. He had a successful practice and did nothing with his money; he even sponged off of his then-wife (related to me) and her credit cards. He’s now mid-‘70s and doesn’t have a pot to piss in so can’t stop working.
