I'm not opposed, but will be if the cost is significant. If Gillies, Parsons or our 1st is involved it's a bad, bad trade.

I am hoping that they at least have to throw in a 1st or 2nd, and then we can flip it to the Rags for Raanta or something. And they sure as hell better be retaining salary.
Because Smith is anchor bad. Arizona should be paying us to take him.

2 years at $5.6+million, this is going to suck.

He was by far and away the best player on the Coyotes last season.
He's also part of the reason the Yotes have dominated the Oilers in recent times.
Keeping in mind that it's a stop gap, I'll reserve judgement.

Smith has pretty good home plate numbers (better than Fleury) and i don't think we're going to be giving up a lot.

Agreed. If this does come to fruition I'm hoping for a decent price and it could be a decent stop gap.
All hinges on the price though.

I'd be very surprised if the acquisition cost ends up higher than the 3rd they would have to spend on Elliott.
Initial reaction:
-Treliving and Maloney know this guy's character and ability level well
-Treliving has swung and missed a couple times with goalie acquisitions, so I am hopeful that this is a player he is fully confident about
-Smith can play a lot of games
-His age makes me nervous
-He is excellent at playing the puck most of the time, but I have seen him make some foolish mistakes as well by trying to do too much with it
-I wonder if this means they will give Rittich a shot as the back up?

Smith is a good goalie who has been on a bad team. One of the better options out there.

The idea of acquiring Smith has actually grown on me since the beginning.
Pretty solid underlying numbers on a pretty terrible team.
Plus I always thought it would be a cheap acquisition cost.
So hopefully it is cheap, and then I'm ok with it.

I actually really like Smith, although his age and contract aren't the best. As long as the Flames didn't give up a lot for him I'd be fairly happy with this.

I cannot imagine that there is any way the Flames take the full contract on...either AZ retains some of the money or a bad contract (Stajan?) goes the other way.
