Voted "Fine". As far as I can tell he may have targetted Doughty's head, but he didn't actually hit it. Too bad we don't have better camera angles though....the only ones I've seen are unclear at best.
Prolly will get 10 games because Wideman. Oh - right, they can't do that because it's a phone hearing.
Doughty should get an embellishment fine as well in that case.

Race baiting? Not calling you out but that's a pretty serious claim. Example?

I think it is pretty fluky to connect with an elbow like that, turning and behind the back. That was a work of art, to be honest. Still illegal, high and dirty, and wouldn't be surprised to see him get at least a game. So many worse plays over the years have gone without a review, so who knows.
The follow up scrum had a pretty good near miss elbow against Tkachuk well.

If Tkachuk didn't play the style he does I'd say warning+fine. Because he's likely going to be a repeat offender over the years to come, I think the league will set an early precedent with a 1 game suspension to send an early message.

Have they ever not announced a suspension the same day as the hearing?
I'm thinking he's off the hook.

I would think a 1 game suspension would be adequate to make up for the missed 5+GM call that it probably should have been. Oiler fans will lead a witch hunt (about an incident in a game between two teams that weren't even the Oilers) but I don't think there is much to this one.
I don't know how the stripes missed it on the ice.

He went through a phase a couple years ago of implying or outright stating that any criticism of PK Subban was rooted in racism.

I like players that play gritty, even riding that proverbial line. I start to dislike players that are 'dirty'.
There is a fine line between being 'greasy' and 'dirty'. That elbow (or whatever you want to call it - attempted elbow if you may) was in the dirty column for me. I have zero issues with Tkachuk's game other than this. The elbow yesterday, the headbutt earlier in the season, POSSIBLY a slewfoot (I will give him the benefit of the doubt on that one)... but it is stuff like that which makes me dislike a player. Just hope he learns to keep on the right side of that line.
I used to like Dennis Gauthier. Real nice open-ice hits that kept the opposition honest and forced them to keep their heads up. I thought he was a defensive defencemen on the rise. Really liked the kid's game... until I started noticing his knee would slide out on hits too often, connecting in a dangerous manner. Started disliking him, and I was very happy to see him traded away.
I can cheer very loudly for a pest that riles up the other team, and a guy who plays very physical and lays it all on the line. I have always enjoyed the physical element of hockey - the hard hits, the fighting, etc. What I have never accepted in this game is the deliberate attempts to injure. I love Tkachuk, and I think not only will he be a hell of a player, but I feel he already is. I just don't want to start seeing him continue doing what I consider this 'cheap and dirty' stuff.
Did Doughty have it coming? Doughty is fairly cheap, but I don't think he deserves an elbow to the head. The only guys that 'deserve' stuff like that are the guys that actually perpetrate this type of actions - the Cookes, Torres', Ruutuus, Marchments, etc.
With that being said, I just think he gets a fine. He has been lucky in the past (like the headbutt incident - so no, I don't buy that since it is the Flames, the NHL will crack down hard), and IIRC, he still has a clean record. A fine is the first step, especially since Doughty was playing after the incident.

Hope Tkachuk doesn't turn into a doosh playa like Marchand. That was a nasty elbow.

yeah, let's hope he never turns into a 40/80 scorer and legitimate Hart and Ross candidate.

You mean the Marchand '1 point off the NHL scoring lead' kinda doosh playa?
I think that would do

When I watch the hit on slo-mo and I consider the game within the game, I have no problem with what Tkachuk did.
To me, I don't see him throw his elbow.
Doughty sells it hard.
Doughty continues playing and plays 28 minutes, 7 more than any other team on the ice. That's not bad for a guy who acted like he'd been shot when he was the one that wanted to engage in that hit and then turned his head.
Call me a flaming homer. I don't care. I think there is room in the game for crafty plays like that and I think Doughty, who does the same, and embellishes often enough, needs to stop acting like a baby when he gets schooled by a rookie all night.

Theyd been playing each other hard coming up to that point. Doughty saw a nice chance to hit him in the back. Tkachuck pwned him. Doughty really should feel bad for not seeing that coming. And i think he did. Thats why he sold it
