I rewatched The Zone of Interest after several months.

Man, what a rough movie packaged in such an idyllic setting. It's actually sickening and such a well done movie.

i was surprised at the ending originally, which felt abrupt and not what i expected. But watching again, i got such a better sense of the filmography, sound, and the realism of the film.

Having such a "casual" take on the holocaust is so uncomforting and eerie.

Went back and watched Arrival again.

It’s still outstanding.

Now it’s spread across the internet in 5 minutes and we can watch trailers on repeat.

I didn't know until last night that Alien had been re-released to theatres for its 45th anniversary. If you've never seen it, go see it on a big screen!

I recorded the two Prince music videos which had clips from the movie and watched them relentlessly. #oldasdirt

My dad bought it for me the day it came out, but after 1 viewing, my super religious mother had my brother give it away to a friend. Then again, perhaps it just wasn't appropriate for a 7 year old by late 80s standards?

I love how your mom was so concerned about your soul that you had to give it away and that she didn't give a fata about your brother's friend's soul.

Using Batman as a real world example for the decline in physical media sales:

The Dark Knight - made $300 mill in home video sales
TDKR - $158 mill
Batman V Superman - $82 mill
The Batman - $17 mill

And if you were to see the inverse rise in streaming dollars, I'm betting it doesn't make up the difference (hopefully those numbers are inflation adjusted?).

The studios used to make their bank on these big movies, which allowed them to fund a ton of smaller films that probably wouldn't make very much. That economic model is gone now, and unfortunately the film industry is struggling to produce quality in anything that isn't a giant blockbuster...and even then the quality is suspect a lot of the time.

That's why I yearn for those days because that was the peak economic model for movies. It gave a ton of opportunity for young filmmakers to break into the industry with low budget fare. Movies like Swingers or Clerks aren't being made now.

On the 4th they should play Empire Strikes Back.

I went on Sunday. So fricken good! Held up 1000%.

Could have done without the boring interview with Ridley Scott and the director of the new Aliens that preceded the movie. Like, f off you fart-sniffing dooosh bags. I'm here to watch a movie.

EXACTLY. It feels like movie theaters are mostly just geared to kids / families now. Like 90% superhero movies, Pixar/Disney, or fantasy.

As far as entertainment goes, I wouldn't trade where we are today for the past, though. TV has become infinitely better. There are so many insanely awesome TV shows that are better than any movie.

I do hope this Marvel BS is winding down a bit, though. Superhero fanboy basic bitches have ruined the theater by supporting this garbage for way too long.
