Default Ebola now in US

As per CNN and Reuters, the Center for Disease and Control confirm the first patient with Ebola is currently in a Dallas hospital.

Just headlines right now on CNN and Reuters.

I hope they can do something quickly to address this both in NA but in Africa as well. This could be extremely bad for everyone.

Very, very, very low chance of it spreading in NA like it has in Africa. This was inevitable.

The Ebola virus doesn't spread well. You need a quite sick person showing sweat and saliva all over. As you can imagine, there's reasons it's showing to the extent it has on Africa.

Having said all that, it's concerning that a man could travel to west Africa and bring it here. There should be a better quarantine protocol for travellers from there

Ebola outbreaks: Science versus fear mongering and quackery

http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/...-and-quackery/

Because Ebola virus (particularly the Zaire strain) produces such a nasty disease that kills more than 50% of those infected, even when optimal medical care is available, and over 90% of the untreated, it’s natural that fear and misinformation are running rampant, be they peddled by faith healers, homeopaths, or rich old guys with bad hair and an overinflated opinion of their own knowledge. It’s important for us to remember here in the US that the likelihood of an outbreak due to bringing back two patients with Ebola virus disease is incredibly small, and that conditions here in the US and other developed nations are such that it is unlikely that such an outbreak, even in the unlikely event that it happened, would spread very far, given the differences in medical care, availability of resources, and differences in funeral practices. That’s not to say we shouldn’t be vigilant, but there is really nothing particularly unusual about Ebola virus other than the rapid onset and severity of the disease it causes.

I would assume that anyone that he's been in contact with for the last few weeks is being quarantined and tested.

Yeah, I don't imagine that in poor African countries, people have easy access to medical facilities and treatment. Caring for the sick and dying happens more in the home and community.

The U.S should be able to handle something like this fairly well. It's still scary for anyone who gets it, but I wouldn't expect an epidemic.

I read that the incubation period is between 2 and 21 days, but your not really infectious until you start showing symptoms, which are initially very similar to a bad flu.

Most people with the flu still have sex, or still go out or go to work.

I would think in terms of public safety that they would test people that were in contact with him.

Just for fun I decided to check out the Fox News comments regarding this story. I'm surprised their servers haven't exploded.

That's because we allow travel to nation who have no hygiene. Keep the Muslims and Africans out and disease rate goes down. Not being racist just look at where the diseases populate from.
edit: I guess that isn't even "the" Fox news.
