Bow river flow monitoring here:
http://www.environment.alberta.ca/ap...ionID=RBOWCALG
Ghost Reservoir level monitoring here:
http://www.environment.alberta.ca/ap...ionID=RGHOSRES
Note how the Bow spiked right up last week (and Ghost was high), Transalta was holding water as per the city of Calgary while they did mediation work on the riverbanks. They have since started releasing it (you seeing the higher levels last week suddenly).

So if we're through a majority of the snow cap melt, I'd say we're in pretty good shape this year.

Hard to say that for sure. Last year it did happen later in June. That was also the case in 2005, if I remember correctly. If we make it to July with no significant event, then I'd say we're looking good. All it takes is some major low pressure system hanging over the rockies for a couple days for some #### to happen.

Looks like they are higher now with the work they have done over the last 10 days or so.

Great writeup by Chris Turner on the flood last year, and how city manager (at the time) Owen Tobert laid the groundwork that allowed the city to handle it so well:

Great read. Especially the part about how incumbents get rewarded for managing disastersretroactively versus investing to prevent them proactively. It takes real leadership to do the latter.

Last year we had a lot of help in Sunnyside from folks here on CP (and everywhere) post flood.
In honour of that the Hillhurst-Sunnyside community association is hosting a Flood Appreciation Party on Sunday, June 22 from 4-7 pm.
It will be located at the site of the "Crisis Cafe" (corner of 7th Avenue and 5th Street NW). There will be food and entertainment.
I hope that many of you that generously gave your time to help us all out can come down and mark the occasion with us.

River is running really high by my place in mission. Starting to get anxiety seeing as we are two days away from when the flood hit last year

Haven't read the thread yet but was listening to the radio today. Flow of the river right now is 80 m3/hr. Highs during the flood were over 700. Levels are going up due to mitigation, (they've announced that some pathways and underpasses will be flooded) but it's nowhere remotely close to last year. No need for anxiety.

Residents are having flashbacks to last years flood and with the anniversary date approaching it's expected that people will have anxiety.

What your seeing is the city draining out the rez a bit to create some space in case they need it. If they felt like it they could close it back up and you'd be back to the levels you saw a day or two ago.

Someone at work just told me Lethbridge has issued a boil water order but I couldn't find anything official. Anyone know if this is true?

No boil water order yet. River will be basically double what it was last year during the flood. Luckily not much stuff is in their valley, but some stuff is getting wiped out for sure. The Oldman will flow about 2.5x the Bow did during the flood last year.

Just people at campsites in the valley are moving now... they're going to start sandbagging tomorrow but I don't see how the entire Paradise Canyon area doesn't get evacuated by the end of tomorrow.
Man I can't believe we're doing this again, almost a year to the day.
