That seems high to me. He's a good player, but he's no Dougie Hamilton.

4 goals and 35 pts last year

I really like him and think he has a ton of potential but that's too much for a guy that hasn't proven a lot. I guess they're paying for potential here.

If you are asking about what he was asking for in arbitration, it was 1 year $4.85 million. His agent probably asking for higher than what they were really wanting for a one year deal as arbitration usually picks a number in between.

Also a bit apples to oranges as this buys 2 year of UFA.

Though I think with his shot, he should be good for much more than 4 goals - he should easily be good for 10-15 goals per year in the future, and is a big, well rounded defenseman who has top 2 potential. Seems like a pretty fair deal to me.

Slavin at 7 x 5.3m who is a year younger and played slightly fewer games is the comparable. Seems pretty fair to me.

He had that shot in each of the last two years and managed 9 goals and 4 goals. 13 goals in two years. But he's worth 15 a year going forward? If I'm the GM, I'm telling him that I'll pay him like a 15 goal scorer when he is a 15 goal scorer.

Other than the hatrick and 5 total goals against the Flames, he has 8 goals against the rest of the league in 2 years.

I'm not saying Parayko is better but he was chosen for Team North America in the World Cup and also asked to play in the World Championships this past season for Canada. Hamilton was not selected for either team. Point production isn't everything for defenceman. I'd say Parayko is just as highly regarded as Hamilton in the hockey world.

Not certain, but I think Hamilton was invited to the WCs and passed because of an injury, wasn't he?

Regardless, team selections are the choice of a couple of guys.

Hamilton was 9th in Norris voting. Parayko never garnered a single vote - even from the STL voters.

Parayko is not regarded as highly in the hockey world.

Question: would you trade Hamilton for Parayko straight up?

OH man...I like Parayko quite a bit, but I don't think that this last sentence is true. Not being a homer at all when I say that Hamilton would get you far more in a trade than Parayko.

I'd probably take Hamilton over every defenceman on that team, except Jones and Ekblad.

He's never been able to put up much point or goals, even back in the AJHL. Lots of defencemen have great heavy accurate shots but you need to be able to get that off quickly, real fast before anyone closes in on you.

Robyn Regehr had a deadly shot but couldn't get it away quick enough to score or even put it on net.

As for the real... dang that's alot! Only two seasons to get that deal but that's the new NHL. If I was a Blues fan I'd be surprised but could easily stomach it.

100% agree. Looks like market value, and shows that majority of Trelivings signings have been below market value.

We do need to consider that the cap has still moved up the past two seasons. So even a guy like Dougie would be a bit richer today than two years ago just based on the cap inflator.

I also think the market for defenceman is starting to move upwards in recent years. As some of these guys like Josi, Brodie, Klefbom took longer deals at lower numbers and look like bargains 1-2 years into these contracts, agents have adjusted their asks on these guys.
