Default Why Don't We Just Exterminate All Mosquitoes

They're more annoying than bears... So what do you guys and girls use to control them in your yards? Do those hanging zappers work? They're not all that cheap, but the price does have a pretty sizable range. Does a cheapo one work as well as an expensive one? Do they work at all?

I've hung a couple of bat houses around my property, but they have yet to take up residence, and I dread the idea of a bad mosquito summer in my cool new backyard. I'm just outside of the city, so the roads all have ditches with standing water after rain, and they breed pretty quickly.

It'd be nice if the government would just ban mosquitoes, but that's just a slippery slope that might lead to banning dogs.

I don't know, only the species that is around early season (around now) bother me. The rest don't seem to bite as often. Another week or 2 and they will die off and it will be a great summer!

Because science.

Don't go tampering with the natural order. You don't know what result this could have.

Exactly. Let's find out what happens. Maybe they are truly useless. Maybe not. At least we will know for sure.

Nice to pay homage to DESS.

If this goes half as well as either of those threads you have done well.

Also mosquito's suck.

Maybe we could just genetically engineer them so they think humans don't taste good. Not even all humans, really. Just me would do. Where do I get one of those CRISPR things from?

I believe this has been done already as an experiment somewhere. I remember, vaguely, our science teacher telling us about it when we're studying ecosystems. It had resulted in most birds leaving the area of the experiment.

I think the main species that the eco system does not need and would probably thrive if they went extinct would be humans lol
