CP vegetarians, what do you do when you don't have time to prepare meals or just don't want to? I've looked into fresh meal services and it seems none of them offer any real vegetarian options. Is it always takeout from restaurants? Grab what's available pre-made at Suntara? Any ideas would be great.

I haven't seen this in any replies with this here.
Raw eatery in Kensington is quite good and well priced. I think they deliver through skip the dishes too.
www.thecollectiveraw.com
Farmer markets also have some good pre made options. For example
Primal soup which are on a few different markets
It's all good organic in kings land market
Also not as good but convenient there are Amy's frozen meals which you can find in most grocery stores. They have frozen enchiladas and stuff like that.

Have you ever been to Heart's Choices? They have three locations in Calgary. Unbelievable food. Join Calgary Vegans/Vegetarians on Facebook. There are so many options in the city.

You ever see a cow? An elephant? Do they have protein deficiencies?
If anything, the over-abundance of protein in people's diets are largely leading to the huge health crisis in the western world.
If you're vegetarian or vegan, you only need a B12 supplement. That's it.
PS - the simple fact that you called proteins carbohydrate sources made me LOL
|
Calm down.
First yes I have seen vegetarians have trouble getting protein. It's like any other diet in the world...you need to eat the right things and a variety of to get the balanced nutrients.
Second I never called protein sources carbohydrates I said many of the ones such as beans can also be high in carbohydrates meaning they are also high in calorie content. Again it's about making sure everything is balanced. Just like undernourished vegetarians exist so to do fat ones. Just like there are undernourished meat eaters and fat meat eaters.
Finally my comment was directed at essential amino acids and that not all protein sources are indeed equal. It isn't just "protein" but the types of proteins and what the foods provide in terms of amino acids, because your body is not able to make some of them. They need to come from your diet.
Also, I'm far from uneducated. Feel free to keep that #### to yourself next time.

As this thread has been bumped, this is the perfect moment for me to let you all know that the First Annual Calgary VegFest is this coming Saturday (23rd Sept) at Shaw Millennium Park - 11am to 6pm. I'm volunteering at the Calgary Animal Rights Effort table - come and say Hi! Lots of vegan food vendors, speakers, music, etc

Eggplants cooked Chinese style in brown sauce is the only veggie dish that is competitive with meat imho.

We ate lots of beans, chickpeas, lentils...all so diverse in how you can use them to cook. Portabello mushrooms are great on the BBQ for a burger especially topped off with a bit of brie. We didn't eat poorly at all as you often had to put some extra thought into how you'd make something and end up with something elaborate and delicious.
I'm not going to go full vegetarian but we'll probably continue to make more meatless meals.

I made a decision to lower my meat consumption by 50% and so far this year that is closer to 75%. I still rely a lot on dairy, eggs especially for protein but have increased my veggies dramatically.
Now when I do eat meat its generally Icelandic lamb which is the least harmful to our environment, pretty rarely chicken, even rarer beef (Icelandic lamb is far tastier with filets and loads of options), and a fair bit of fish.
My decision was based on looking at my diet over the decades and realizing just how much meat intake and how bad that is for this planet, now when I do eat meat its a lot less and more enjoyable since its more of a treat.
I suspect when we can manufacture plant based meat that is being done in labs today, we will see a massive amount of people eat this stuff (when its tasty enough) to help combat the damage done; especially by the Beef, Pork and Chicken industries to our planet.

lol it is still delicious and I won't lie, in Iceland beef is crazy expensive and good cuts are usually brought in frozen and just don't taste good. Plus the Icelandic lamb is awesome.

Chicken actually has a relatively small carbon footprint as far as meat goes. It's much more problematic from an ethical standpoint (meaning: if you think it matters how they grow them) than ecological.

Gardein makes the best fake meat. The beef tips actually fooled an unsuspecting victim.
I have all the Thug Kitchen books. The vulgarity may get a bit annoying but I can't help chuckling over it and many of the recipes are really good.

We have a brew pub here with Gardein burgers/wings/strips on the menu - one of our favourite places to go. I agree with the Thug Kitchen books - some very good receipes in them.
