Gave this a try on a friend's recommendation during Open Beta. I don't play FPS games. I've tried several, and haven't enjoyed any.

I loved this one so much I pre-ordered it.

I'm not very good at it...but I still quite enjoy it (at least, for now). I find that being on a team with folks who just have no clue is very frustrating, and have lost some matches with the payload 1 meter from the goal, because folks just won't get on the damn payload or stop trickling in to get killed.

I usually play Mercy, but also do a decent Reinhardt and Soldier 76.

Played a bit more, and seem to be holding tooth and nail to a roughly 50% win rate (which is what I had in the OB, until the last night).

I'm tempted to give this a day or two to sort itself out a bit more, since the matches that I'm losing are a straight up "walk all over you and don't look back" sort. I fully admit that I'm not very good at this, and that there are people who are really, really good...and when we play against each other, it's super obvious who's who. I understand everyone starting at the same level at launch...but I'm really tempted to give it a bit of time so that those "uber players" can play themselves out of 'my' bracket, so to speak.

Still finding the game a lot of fun, and I seem to really enjoy those close fought, down to the wire matches.

One tip I can think of for folks like myself, who aren't used to games like this...try playing around with the "Mouse Sensitivity" option if you haven't. I found my game really improved once I went from the default setting of 15 to the personalized one of 75. Also, look around the options by character instead of just "all heros". Some of them have specialized options that make playing them a bit easier.

Realized I'm really really good with Pharah. Had a couple 40-5 type rounds last night. Not having to RJ to get up above is a nice feature in comparison the TF-type games.

Ensure you are "rating" the matches at the end. They will help the system sort out it's early stage ELO logarithm and improve matching later on.

Turrets are really weak though. Snipers can easily take them out but they haven't learned that yet.

Lol, one of my 'highlights' is literally almost exactly like that. Fortunately it wasn't the play of the game.

Taking out a Bastion by deflecting their tank shot back at them with Genji was immensely satisfying.

Having a blast playing as Junkrat. Chasing people with the RIP-Tire is just hilarious!

Yeah, finally got a Mercy POTG!

And yes, I did hesitate slightly hoping for another person to go down so I'd get the quadruple-rez trophy

That was pretty great. I got a Symmetra POTG yesterday for baiting 5 guys into running into a 6 laser sentry tunnel of death while I flung energy orbs at them. Symmetra is a highly underrated and underplayed defender IMO.

Yep, agreed. I play Symmetra a lot and have had some dominant matches with her. When you get 6 of those sentry turrets set up you can just BBQ guys as they try to take the point. And a well-placed teleporter is just as effective, if not more so, then a well-timed mass resurrection from Mercy. I hardly see anyone playing as her.

She is tough to be effective with on Escort maps, I find. But when the action all takes place in one spot she's awesome.

I got 5 gold medals (Damage, objective kills, eliminations, objective time, healing done) as Zenyatta. I'm pretty sure that was my team being awful (we got steamrolled), but still kind of hilarious.

I haven't really found Symmetra to be that useful. I find she's a character that if your team is better than the other team, she will make you stomp harder (teleporter and sentries), but if you're evenly matched, she gets rendered useless.

I think it's more if the other team pays attention to her, you're screwed. If someone gets wise to my game and starts targeting my turrets basically as soon as I place them, I switch pretty quick. Fortunately, most players ignore them and her in place of bigger/more immediate threats.

But, your statement also applies to a lot of the support characters. Damage buffs, healing, and defensive strategies don't work well if your team is just terrible and constantly getting run over. My favorite is when I'm Mercy and my tanks run away from me/enemies while I'm healing them, leaving me to be killed. Protect your healers, people!

This game caught me off guard.
Had no intention of getting it and hadn't played the beta but I picked it up after reading the positive reception and am having a blast. Its polish, charm, and simplicity is great.

I've spent most of my time as Pharah and Mercy so far. The game does a good job of not marginalizing any class and the support characters play an absolutely vital role in most games.

Been spending a lot of time with a couple of friends of mine playing. I play a Reinhardt, and they usually change up with one of them being Mercy, and the other playing Junkrat or Pharah. Those three work really, really well together.

I've instituted a new policy. If I am tanking or playing support and no one is helping me out/protecting me at the objectives then I switch to a damage class. No point in trying to tank or heal if your team is just going to run off and do their own thing.

As a guy who has his second most hours in Medic for TF2, this has been my policy for the last 8.5 years. Screw trying to heal people that won't defend you. You're a goddamn resource, not a bonus.
