Over the holidays we had a wireless digital box installed at my mother-in-laws place and the technician was also complaining about how slow the menus were. I asked him why that was, and he said that they were rolling out updates to 3 geographic areas separately and then when those are all complete there will be an overall update that (in theory) will fix the latency issues. FWIW.

Mine has been fine since the upgrade. Our boxes were installed at the beginning of november and were on fibre though so they are fairly new.

Hey, how are people liking Telus Fiber? I am curious what the bundles look like, and if there are good incentives. The site is a bit bare.
I'm on Shaw 50/1.5 - the upload speeds make cloud backups nearly impossible. I pay $150/month for tv (all HD, HBO)/phone and internet.

Ok, so the original remotes on 3 of my Optik boxes are shot - can I just order new ones? (If so, where?)

Call telus or go on their website and do the live chat.... That's what I did.
The new remotes are a sturdier than the second model that came out but they don't have the input button to change the TV input.

So I see telus are offering a free TV when you sign up to a contract with them. I presume this doesn't apply if you are already a customer and sign to a contract? Does anyone know if your monthly bill goes down when you sign to a contract?

It might. There's some specifics with whether you could be eligible, depending on whether you've signed a contract and whatnot. Best to call retention/loyalties and ask.
For a reduced bill, I believe the choice is either a gift (TV, giftcard) or promo pricing. Not both.

The input button is under the number 7 on the new remote (piggybacks on the search button). Make sure you change your source to TV first.

We rotate between my name and my wifes name being on the bill to get the free tv or whatever they have.

Oh wow! I just got a new remote back in December and figured I had the newest one. Did a quick search on slimline 2 and that is definitely not the one I have. Looks like I have the original slimline remote. Absolutely stupid to leave the input/source button off a remote...

A loophole... Interesting. Can you touch on this a bit more? Would i have to call and cancel my services then my wife call to have Telus set up?

I am going to Telus fiber, but want to use my own router. What router do you guys recommend for being able to bridge the telus 100 optic internet?

I just got Telus Optik hooked up this weekend, so far so good. I don't really give a rats ass about the tv side of things as most thing I watch are streamed but they threw it in for a year free so no biggie. The interface is pretty nice and much quicker than the Shaw version. Netflix through it great as well and the kids figured it out already so i get a computer back. The internet 50 for $65 a month is pretty good as well.
Don't care about 4K, I do enough of it at work to know it ain't really worth it.
