WOW! I read this forum everyday and had no idea that Calgary was flooding. Saw news that the PM was coming to town to take a look. Of course, this was below the truely important, BIG headline news - LeBron James is actually better now than Michael Jordan was then

Hang in there folks. I live in the Sacramento, California area - known to be the area of greatest flood risk next to New Orleans in the USA, so I certainly sympathize.

Because no one in Calgary was really suspecting any flooding to happen until after they got up yesterday morning.

Even then, it took a while to figure out how much water was coming. They probably didn't know that those areas were going to flood until AT LEAST midnight, if not later.

I don't understand why the jumbotron would be on ice level when they knew there was a flood risk coming to the Saddledome. I doubt that it's wrecked and it's only speculation

it's been said already in this thread, but the flood risk wasn't really expected...

I thought it was just the jumbotron control room and not the jumbotron itself?

Could be both. Arenas will lower the scoreboards to the ground when it is not in use. So if they didn't see it coming in time, or the control room got wreaked before it could be lifted, it could be an expensive day for the Saddledome's insurance company.

Well there was an event that was supposed to be happening in the Dome this weekend and was cancelled last night, before the Dome was flooding. So I can imagine that they did have a hint of notice, and enough time to raise the jumbotron.

Well, anyone there for seat locations on Wed or even yesterday? Was the jumbotron lowered to the floor or not? Regardless, the control room and all the electronics and production equipment getting soaked is just as bad.

Wonder if the Corral is OK...some of those 100 year old pictures of old teams in the concourse would be a further shame to lose.

I just thought of that too. I hope the Corral is ok. It would be a terrible shame to lose all that memorabilia.

I imagine that the round up centre, corral, and big 4 are all flooded.

CTV just said it was the control room and did not mention the actual jumbotron was damage. If it was they would have said so.

Setting aside potential loss of life in Calgary (which obviously is priority #1), that is heartbreaking to read.

With Sarge having passed away it's utterly irreplaceable.

With the amount of damage happening in the dome right now, this might be something like a 50 million dollar plus repair. Plus the dome might not be available for at least part of next season.

I have a very real fear that we don't have NHL hockey in this city next year.

what happens if the Dome is a massive writeoff at this point and repair the damage is simply not worth it.

Could we see the Saskatoon flames, or Seattle Flames for the next year?

There is so much at ice level in the Dome that's essential to operating the building that would be just destroyed. Jumbotron control, dressing rooms, equipment rooms, kitchens, generators, concessions warehouse, FanAttic warehouse, zambonis, the ice plant and on and on and on. It certainly won't be a quick fix.

It's a strong possibility we may have already seen the last game at the Saddledome.
