Let's assess the qualities of our coach based on what he said to one guy about beer hockey at an event!
Seriously, maybe he gets asked that all the time and doesn't really want to get into it. Similar to how lawyers and doctors always get asked for free advice.

The Flames had terri-bad goalies this year. Hanging that on the coach isn't fair. He had crap to work with. Crap in. Crap out.

Unless you are in the room you have no idea if the current guy is helping or hurting the team.

These guys are NHL goaltenders. You're not working with a 12 year old kid. You can offer tweaks and drills that may help at the margins, but you're either good or not at this point. If the Flames trade for Carey Price this summer - he'll be good if Sigalet stays or goes.

With that theory then no specialized coach is important. Either he's important or he's not. If he is, then his importance is tied to the success of goaltending. If there's no success, then either the position isn't important, or it still is but the person in that role is not suited for it.

Geez. Officially and for the record, I didn't take it too seriously.

The whole punch line is that Hiller did not improve all year, under his coaching, and maybe he gave Hiller the same advice he gave me.

And yes, you should at least partially hang failure to eradicate obvious flaws on the coach.

(And at an event where the staff and players are interfacing and networking with the STH community, nothing wrong with trying out their people skills)

Hard to follow exactly what it involves based on the article. But interesting concept. Thanks!

A nice short video on head trajectory technique that James Reimer now uses on HNIC intermission with Hrudey.

This must be the off season in which the Flames get a new goalie coaching.

Elliott's already been employing the blindfold tactic except he uses it in real games too.

You know it's a problem when it's a reoccurring April question. I think Treliving needs to understand that Sigalet could end up costing people jobs like GG and himself for starters. He has to leave no stone unturned this offseason in regards to finding a starting goaltender and goaltending coach. Just keeping Sigalet around and adding new goaltenders every season is turning into lipstick on a pig at this stage. I'm sure he's a great guy but it hasn't worked out and it's to the point that you have to change everything up in regards to goaltending from the coaching down.

Sigalet should have been fired after last year

Like the two goalies, Sigalet is done. See ya!
Semi-interesting stat, Sigalet literally played one minute, total, in the NHL.

It bugs me to no end that we could of had a head trajectory coach in the minors (maybe even the NHL by now) but cheaped out. Now I get to "enjoy" his success in Edmonton.

He's an incredible goalie coach and his promotion a couple of years ago was very well deserved. Get this guy a malleable young-ish starting goaltender and you'll see his work come through.
Found Jordan's account

He's had crap x4 now I guess. So if it's not on Treliving for changing goalies, getting a guy who was top of the NHL before he got here, there has to be a root cause.

Why is your imperative to defend any coach at all costs?

I could work hard and put in 100's of hours a week and still be a terrible goalie coach too. Effort and dedication mean nothing if you're crap.

Proof is in the pudding, and his pudding has been leakier than a sieve the last 4 games. He has 1 job, and has clearly failed at it.

Another garbage bagger come Friday.

Dustin Schwartz. Higher up in OR sports which uses head trajectory (current Oilers GC), offered a one year deal for Adirondack. He wanted two because his wife would have to give up her solid nursing position to move. Flames said no to that and a few months later he became the Oiler GC. Had some very good success with Broisiot (Sp?) and Jarry but never played in the NHL. Was small and has a temper that he couldn't overcome. Good teacher just couldn't get the mental part down himself.

Flames need to stop cheaping out on goalies.
