Part of the reason I can see why the Flames considered trying him as a forward so he can try to become a Lance Bouma type guy.

Just a reminder that he didn't lose last season to an on ice injury, he was just the victim of a freak medical accident. Not something to build a narrative around imo.

Yeah true but he missed games in his OHL season (played 45 games) and in his last year in the USNDT (24 games played). It will be big for his future to go through this season mostly healthy and have a good off season training.

I wanted to single out this comment because Sieloff is a first year guy. It doesn't feel like it but he only played 1 game last year and would have not been allowed in the AHL had he been drafted out of the CHL rather than the USHL. For all intents and purposes he is in the same boat as Culkin & Kulak, maybe even further behind in his development due to missing a full year.

Drury18's Player of the Month for January: David Wolf. With 7G and 2A in the 8 games in January prior to his call up to Calgary, Wolf became an unexpected offensive leader for the Adirondack Flames. Wolf scored points in 6 straight games and goals in 4 straight. Amazingly, during this streak Wolf did not record a single penalty minute and has not recorded a penalty since December 31st. Wolf also proved to be a versatile player during this time as he played with a number of linemates including Ferland, Poirier, Reinhart, McGrattan, Elson and Van Brabant while accumulating the points.
Honourable Mention: Emile Poirier. Yes, here is his name again. This kid is just like the Energizer Bunny. He keeps going and going and going. With 2G, 6A in 8 games, he was the 2nd highest scorer in January on the Adirondack Flames. If not for Drew Shore joining the team earlier this month, Poirier would be the points leader and points per game leader on the Flames. At the All Star Weekend, Poirier was the 2nd fastest skater in the AHL All Star Skills Competition and contributed 1G and 2A in the All Star Game.
Corey Potter should also be mentioned as he had 5A in 6GP in January. In fact, most of the Flames defence should be recognized as they were in on 17 of the 28 goals scored in January. Quite a bit of our offense actually came from the defence or originated from good plays by our defencemen. Yonkman, Ramage, Culkin, Potter, Acolaste and Wotherspoon were all involved in the January scoring.

Ortio's progression since October is just freakish.
And daps to the coaching staff for fixing that dreadful PK. To go from 30th to the 11th is outstanding. Maybe the big team can take some pointers from Huska on how to run a power play.

Pretty average month for the team overall, hopefully they can find another gear here down the stretch and into the (hopefully) playoffs.
...and please find a way to beat freaking Utica.

And PK too. PK for the flames is being saved by hardly taking any penalties. Dreadful %.

Cannot do SH% leaders per month. It's impossible without doing a lot of complicated math and I probably would screw it up.

If anyone is in Glen Falls, there is a photo and autograph session today with Hanowski and Ortio from 4:30-6pm (EST) at Scoville Jewelers on Glen Street.

I'm surprised McGrattan still hasn't had a scrap this year in either league and I'm shocked to see him donning a visor.

It is mandatory for all players to wear a visor in the AHL. He has no choice in the matter.

Article on Kulak:
http://www.reporterherald.com/sports...tion-from-blue
Quote:
The first thing Burke brought up was a talented young defenseman in Calgary's organization who plays for Stewart's Colorado Eagles.
"How's he doing?" Burke asks. "He's a great player."
Brett Kulak, a 21-year-old blue liner, is the subject of their conversation. He's a former fourth-round pick of the Flames in 2012 and still draws plenty of notice.
"They think the world of him," Stewart said. "They have high aspirations for Kulak, and to me I think he's more than capable from what I've seen. He continues to get better and continues to pierce the level that he's at."
For now, Kulak is developing his skills in Colorado hoping to one day live a dream in the NHL, and the Eagles have greatly benefited. He's fourth on the club in points with 29 (nine goals, 20 assists), but it's been in the past month Kulak's truly blossomed.
In 15 games he scored four goals and assisted nine others for 13 of those 29 points in January, another critical component in what has become a potent offensive blue line for the Eagles.
"For me I think it's a confidence thing. I'm just feeling more comfortable with the team and falling into our game style," Kulak said. "Our defense has really talented guys. Everyone can skate well, pass the puck well and shoot well, so those are usually good combinations to have on the back end to contribute offensively."
|
Quote:
Kulak and Joe's development as the season progresses has given the Eagles one of the more potent defensive units in the league as Kulak (fifth) and All-Star defenseman Collin Bowman (first) both rank in the top five in the ECHL in points among blue liners.

Excellent. I was surprised at the beginning of the year that he got demoted, but getting #1 minutes will not hurt him in the slightest.

Nearhos reporting Wotherspoon is back in Glens Falls.
Carr and Potter is missing from practice. Potter is presumably called up. Carr presumably assigned to Colorado.
edit:
Looks like Carr is still with Addy.
Diana C. Nearhos @dianacnearhos
Carr is getting on the ice after full team session. Only two nets for three goalies.

If Carr continues to stay with the team, it certainly implies that they are trying to make a move to get Ortio back to Calgary.
If they were planning on Ortio remaining in GF, no point in keeping a 3rd goalie around.

That's what I am guessing too. I can't see any reason to have 3 goalies, especially when the ECHL team he's coming from is scrambling to sign people to contracts and such. If he wasn't needed, he'd be sent down. No disrespect to Carr, but he's not THAT good where they would need to protect him or something like that. He's a solid goalie, but he's not late 90's Martin Brodeur.
(If there is a goalie trade, probably a good thing I didn't pick the goalie jersey for the Flames contest I won. Poor Hiller would have been gone by the end of the day. I have that sort of luck with jerseys)

Heh. Me too. When Flames signed Jay Bouwmeester I was excited about how we had our #1 Dman for Iggy & Kipper, I picked up his jersey.......
.....and then I discovered he was a passive, soft, mechanical #3 getting paid 7 mil, and that jersey was just sitting the closet.
Then he finally started playing well and I pulled out the jersey... and he got traded a few weeks later.
