I'm not sure if the market is willing to pay an 18 goal, 50 point, undersized, injury prone center considerably more than $5 million a season. He's a good player but not elite or even great and there's not much in the way of untapped potential. IMO he made out very well in this deal and the Lightning are taking most of the risk here.

Looking at his per game averages over 4 years, he's almost 25g and just shy of 60p for a full season - not to mention he does well in the play offs....
He's 26 now, and signed through 33, so this deal won't go into the 35yo range or anything like that.
Seems like a very reasonable deal to me

^He had one great year which brings up the average. Agreed about his playoff stats.
He has been fairly injury prone, so a 7x5 deal looks pretty risky to me. Guess TB is satisfied that he has no long-term problems.
