Wow, really happy with this. Thought he'd sign for a year and bolt.

Does this take him right to UFA after 3 years? If so, smart of him.

He already has five year's experience, so a 3 year deal buys one year of UFA for the Habs.

Brutal contract sending him to UFA at 26.

It seems to me the Canadiens have been trying to get rid of Galchenyuk since they drafted him.

Pretty much exactly what I thought he would get. Seems like a fair deal for both parties.
But there does seem to be animosity between Galchenyuk and the club. I don't even know what the issues are other than the club perhaps expected more from such a high draft choice, but clearly they don't see him as a long term part of the team if they only did a 3 year deal.

Maybe it's Galchenyuk who doesn't want to be a long-term part of the Habs, and not vice versa.

You'd have some concerns, too, if you kept getting bounced around from wing to centre, etc.
I'm hoping a full season with a competent head coach will show us all what he is capable of. He was, I think 11th in scoring last season pre knee injury, despite Therrien's bungling.

He's giving up only 1 UFA year. Backlund's will need to be more.

The 2012 draft is absolutely brutal. Mark Jankowski is still quite credibly capable of becoming the best player in that draft.

A long way to go yet. 2nd best forward of the draft seems in reach as Forsberg is in there but there was some decent quality defense drafted post Murray and Reinhart.
Reily, Lindholm, Dumba, Trouba, Maata.

He won't ever come close to the best player from that draft however in hindsight looks to be a pretty good pick for 21st overall.

Imagine where Calgary would be right how if they had made Pittsburgh's 3rd round selections in 2012 and 2013 and had Murray and Guentzel instead of Gillies and Kanzig.

You can play that game all day long.
Imagine if they didn't get Johnny in the 4th round. Or Brodie?

Guentzel is a Crosby construct right now, it remains to be seen how he will pan out as the Penguins get older.
