Default Who has the best defense in the league?

IMO it comes down to five teams (but let me know if I missed anyone). So, how would you rank them?

Anahiem. Fowler, Lindholm, Vatanen, Manson, Bieksa, Montour
Calgary Giordano, Hamilton, Brodie, Hamonic, Stone, Andersson/Kulak
Minnesota Suter, Spurgeon, Brodin, Bumba, Quincey, Murphy
Nashville Subban, Josi, Ellis, Ekholm, Irwin, Emelin
San Jose Burns, Vlasic, Braun, Dillon, Martin, Demelo

IMO, the rankings are:
(1) Nashville
(2) Calgary
(3) San Jose
(4) Minnesota
(5) Anaheim

But, a lot of you are more knowledgeable than me, so interested in your views...

Its hard to say, Defence isnt just Defence anymore, its not just keeping the puck out of the net, its stripping the puck and moving it up ice be it through passing or skating, and scoring from the blueline and it tends to be a combination of all of those things.

In that capacity I like what we have because we dont have any real one-dimensional guys.

Trying to look at it unbiased, and while difficult I can't say I would flip our top 5 for any of those other groups.

And that's before I even factor in dollars and controllable term which also gives us a boost. (I think, don't know exact numbers off the top of my head for the other teams players)

Carolina and MAYBE Tampa Bay deserve honorable mentions.

Timo Meier is a right winger for what it's worth, Demelo is the likely #6, no?

I'd say Calgary if we can mention Gio twice.

It's still Nashville. But it's close.

Carolina needs mention.

Slavin - Faulk
Hanifin - Pesce
Fleury - Van Reimsdyk

All 25 and under.

This D is going to be a force for a long time if the Canes can afford to keep them together.

Also, Columbus needs to be in this discussion.

Johnson - Jones
Werenski - Savard
Murray -

Is an unbelievable top 5 D core.
