Could be a fit on our bottom 6 for 2 mil or less. Still a decent stay at home guy and penalty killer I believe

Buyout cap hit $2.6MM for next season, $3.6MM for 2 seasons after that, and then $1.1MM for 3 seasons.

Ouch. That's a pretty big blow to the Rangers who desperately need to win now.

Making room for Shattenkirk, it seems.

Good to see the Rangers get dinged for once.
Compliance buy outs saved their arses in the past.

I still can't believe they chose Girardi over Stralman.

Also, I believe Girardi had a NMC and so they would've had to protect him in the expansion draft.

Wouldn't be a horrible option for the Flames at the right price

He's been on a downward trajectory for a while, but would have to be better than Bartkowski, right?

How much have the Rangers spent in buyouts over the years? I'd love to know. They seem to make really bad deals and then just buy them out a few years later.

Man he looked horrible for the Capitals. Feels like they would be buying out Girardi for the opportunity to overpay then one day buy out Shattenkirk.

One of the biggest holes on the flames is defensemen who you can put on the pk. If Girardi is still good there and adequate at 5v5 then I'd be happy to bring him in at a slightly below NHL average contract. Short term of course.
Also think he could be a good vet for the young guys to learn from.

Rangers to buyout Dan Girardi

My take would be that Girardi's numbers are pretty horrific, and would not be of any help. No need to pay for depth d-men who are slowing down/have already slowed down.

Please stay away Flames...no more declining vets. Let the kids earn a spot and become players in the NHL. I wouldn't be happy if they sign this guy. If we bring back Engelland however I am not against that.
