Flames Flames sign Czech UFA goaltender David Rittich to 1 year 2 way deal

per multiple Czech news outlets on twitter

will be 24 years old in August

Stats:
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=131342

6'4'' 165lbs

edit: he is listed as 194lbs per his Czech's team website.

Would imagine he and Gillies likely to share duties in Stockton

6'4 165lbs?? He must look like someone strapped some goalie pads on a garden rake.

Basically a Reto Berra type acquisition. There is potential there due to his size. The numbers in the Czech league are good. 4th best stats among starters in the league. One above him is 28, the other is 5'11.

Free is good just like with Pribyl. Give them both a shot. If they work out, great. If not, at least you tried.

I like moves like this. Low cost, low risk, potentially high reward.

Apparently he gave an interview already (translation thanks to google translate):

Quote:
"The situation in the crease Calgary know. I can say that for me it is positive that anyone not yet have. But I think for them will not be a problem to get two senior goalkeepers at the leading position number two NHL. We'll see how it goes, but it's definitely for me now, better than if there were three clear goalkeepers, "he said in an exclusive interview with Sport twenty-three goalkeeper.

"I guess I'll start on the farm. Go straight to the NHL, it would have been for me about a big jump. I have to go fight for the chance. I have to endure, it will be a battle, I want to win. That'm going," I do not turn a disciple of Jihlava hockey .

Best goalie outside of the NHL?

Bottom line is he's right. For FA goalies the Flames situation is attractive because there's no incumbent and really not even a number 2 at the moment (although I wouldn't be shocked to see that go to Ortio).

Looks like we found a backup for the AHL or maybe he beats out Ortio for the backup job in the NHL. Mason McDonlad now either plays in the QMjHL or the ECHL.

It's great that he realizes he's going to have to bust his hump to make it on the roster.

Ortio (RFA)
Poulin (RFA)
Gillies
Rittich
McDonald (ECHL?)
Schneider (WHL)

Have to think Poulin doesn't get qualified now.

Another interview thanks to google translate. It sounds like from the translation that the Flames suddenly decided to sign him, he wasn't expecting it.

Quote:
"We have been in contact with representatives of the club during the World Cup, but it seemed that no agreement is reached this year. Now it but a few days turned 360 degrees and we agreed," said Rittich, that does not have a representative experience. "Even in the Extraliga I do not have so much odchytáno. That's why I was on the menu maybe a little surprised," he said.

Hockey goalie David Rittich from Mlada Boleslav signed a one-year contract with the Calgary Flames. Although only two-way, still surprised by the news. "I myself, for I am only the second year in extra league and I do not actually have a representative experience," he does not conceal the 23 year old man.

So you did not know until now that you have a Calgary interest?
I knew you watch me, and I had a meeting the representatives of the club even during the championship of the world where we all discussed. After her, but rather seemed to turn out this year, that we will yet follow. Finally, everything is different.

What happened?
I'm not sure it happened really quickly within a few days. I can say that during the week I had a signed contract. Once Calgary expressed interest, so it went.

Scouts noticed you, or is it the work of an agent?
I think it's one thing to another. Mr. Spálenka did a very good job, but on the other hand, if I did not grab even a football, so I would not even notice.

What do since signing a two-way contract and promise what you can expect in the near future?
It is said that hope dies last. I'm not sure I want to fight about it, so I zachytal in the NHL. Of course I know it's not entirely easy, but that's where I go. A plan? So far, I do not know that I'll know in a few days. Awaiting me toil and struggle.

Given that you have a interest in Calgary knew a long time, so I suppose you have asked for information regarding the goalkeepers. You have all staged?
I know who fielded there last year, but what is happening there now, it informs me, Mr. Spálenka.

Information on the actual Calgary you've already found out from hockey players who operate there?
No, so far I have with any of the guys talked. I hope to meet you there and we'll be able to exchange a few words, how it goes.

Have you been in contact with someone from the club?
Yes. The coach goalkeepers, chief of scouts and general manager.

What are you asking? What interested them?
It's an awful lot of questions. What I would like to work on, what are for me my strengths ... Generally hockey: what to expect from it, what my goals and things like that.

So you stand with English well?
As I can do a little English, but helped me Mr. Spálenka. Now I have to work on it, I had learned. A lot of people reminds me of Roman Cervenka, who said ignorance of the language a little hurt. It is clear that when dopiluju language a bit, so I'll have a simpler life in Canada.

I understand that not refuse such an offer, but do not say that it's a risk? You looked at it from the other side?
Of course it's a risk. But who ventured, nothing gained one and I do not want to try what life is like an ocean.

Sounds like a great attitude.

More guys competing is a good thing.

I wonder though, if this suggests that one of the other guys may be on the way out (trade bate), as there are now a lot of bodies (assuming we grab one, if not two NHLers).

I was thinking the same thing. Is it possible we are moving one of our goaltender prospects in a trade. Crowded crease and we're still looking for a #1.

A little surprised they don't want more of a veteran playing with Gillies in Stockton.
