If his English isn't that good I think we need to start a CP Jihad to have The Flames hire Calgaryboy as official translator. Petr could also use his MC skills as the between plays contest guy, do interviews along with Kristen, and if the radio guys get sick, do play by play.
Making it a family affair, his daughter would probably happily be Harvey's official groomer.

Hence, no risk.

Well, I'm still going to stick with my "low risk" camp in this fight over semantics

Flames have made the signing official
some of the notes Treliving said about Rittich on the radio:
Treliving confirms David Rittich signing
not planning on him solving the goaltending problem in Calgary
European guys identified him a while ago,, followed him throughout the year
big guy atheltic
Czech league not top level
Sigalet dug into this kid, really liked him - raw in a lot of ways
1 year deal 2 way contract
want to be deep in this position
adding him to Gillies, McDonald, Schenider grows depth
will be coming to development camp
low risk... think there is upside to this kid
signing doesn't impact Ortio
still in the discussion for their plans moving forward but depends on moves they will make
not prepared to start him 65-70 games a year
but with right partner he could succeed here.

Some might recall that I'm firmly in the "Rittich is an NHLer, right now" camp.
Flamesnation just posted its prospect wrapup on Rittich. Had some comments from Heat PBP Brandon Kisker that I agree with 100% based on the Stockton games I watched. It's especially interesting coming from a former goalie:

The thing that strikes me was his rebound control. I think the two things you need to be an NHL goaltender is the ability to control where the puck goes and to be able to perform at the same level every game. You knew Rittich was going to give you his all each time he started as I could count on probably one finger a game where he was subpar in. Other then that outlier, he was pretty consistent.
I think he’s a legitimate NHL prospect and not just as a backup. I can see him playing in the NHL and not stopping until he’s a starter. To me, this is the kind of find that comes around once in a while. An unknown entity who exceeds expectations and is so well liked among his teammates that he could be that dark horse that nobody thinks about until he’s already seized an opportunity.

Why would you bump this? I thought they had just re-signed him.

Sorry about that. I just didn't think my post was worthy of its own thread so I bumped "the Rittich thread".

I like keeping all the stuff from a prospect in one thread, at least as long as they're clearly prospects, instead of starting a new one for every story.

Thanks for posting this article. It is great to hear positive reports like this one coming from the farm, but my god Flamesnation, do yourself the courtesy of running your stuff through an editor or minimally a spellcheck before uploading.

I have such a hard time taking Brandon Kisker seriously. He's just so annoying.
But I wonder why the Flames brass never speak highly of him. I've heard Gillies' name dropped a few times, but never Rittich's.

Rittich looks good for sure but until he actually shows he can handle NHL pressure, you can't be handing him a job.

If the Flames get a true NHL starter next season, I sort of think they should just have inner competition for the back up spot.
Let Rittich, Gillies and even Parsons fight for that spot. Hell even McCollum and McDonald if they're still kicking around.
McCollum is 6'2 230lbs and sound fundamentally. He's got like 250 or so AHL games under his belt over 6 or 7 seasons, and the last 3 years his AHL numbers have been really quite good.
Rittich also has several years of pro experience now, including a really strong showing in the AHL last season.
Gillies and Parsons are top notch goalie prospects with lots of talent and ability.
I'd be a little worried taking that gamble if we get a young starter like Pickard, Grubauer or the like, but with a true NHL vet starter I think you should let the internal competition decide who the back up is.

Yeah this needs a new thread, my heart started racing for a second.
But yeah bring back Rittich for sure. I really think we'll see a Gillies/Rittich tandem sometime down the road.
