That's absolutely ridiculous.

That's like saying "I have this great product that does wonderful things and will make your life better" and when asked what it does the sales person saying "well ask me, and if it does that one particular thing I'll tell you".

Does it cook?

"Yes but I won't tell you what unless you ask for the individual dish"

Does it clean?

"Yes but somethings not others again I won't tell you what it cleans unless you specifically ask"

Does it do laundry?

"Not all clothing but again I won't tell you which ones unless you give me your personal information".

WTF? Just tell me what the thing does
And yet, it is free and takes about 45 seconds to sign up. I remember back in the day, to know what was in stock at the video store meant I had to spend a buck in gas and drive for 20 minutes. A bit of an overreaction? If you don't want to sign up, just use a friend's netflix. It seems like everybody knows someone with it these days and just "shares" their account.

I think this is supposed to:

http://instantwatcher.com/

But yeah there's been quite a few times in the last few months that I've found movies only in the "related" list for something I was looking for that I was shocked that they had.

Instant Watcher only works for the US Netflix. It will let you search for items which are also available in Canada but anything which is available in Canada but not the US won't show up.

Try this: http://ca.netflix.com/AllGenresList

Just click on a genre and it should give you a list.

But I could still browse to see what they had without giving them my personal information.

It's not like I was stopped at the door and had an employee say "tell me what you want to watch and I'll tell you if we have it"

I don't know what I want, hence the desire to browse.

I realize it's free, here's my issue. I'm looking at getting it once I bring my PS3 back from my parent's house. Until then I'm curious what's available and if it will be worth me cancelling my cable. I can do that now, which would be great. I don't feel like burning $8 for something that should be available to me for free. (I would be burning the $8 because if I do sign up then I lose my free month on my TV as I currently don't have the ability to watch it there, so I'd lose my free month checking what's offered).

Additionally, I'm starting to get the feel that there isn't a complete list even if you sign up.

Actually if there is a list online can someone print it to PDF and email it to me?

There isn't a list like that to print off, everything is through their interface where you select genres and sub-genres and it shows you what's available.

Or there's a search function but the interface isn't such that you could just print it.

It's not that there isn't a complete list; whatever they have they'll show you if you look, it's just there's stuff there that I don't recall ever showing up in the "New Sci-Fi" or "New TV" but all of a sudden appears.

Buffy showed up and so did Angel, but I don't recall either of them being highlighted to me, I think the things that they show you in the front page interface are tweaked based on your viewing history and ratings, but if you drill down into the genres they show you everything.

If you use that link that Arsenal14 posted, it shows a Genre list and each one shows a full list in a table kind of format.

Thanks guys, I still think it's very odd that you can't just browse their entire catalogue carte blanche

I do understand the breakdown by genre, but you'd think you'd be able to say "I want to see what TV shows they have" just to see what they have when searching as I'm not looking for a particular show or movie, I'm looking at what exactly they offer as a whole.

How about this one (maintained by some random user): http://netflixcanadacompletelist.blogspot.com/

Offers the complete list sorted by release date or alphabetically.

I don't know it will ever be worth cancelling the cable for, until it becomes, just like cable. I still watch the news, sports...etc that can't be found on any streaming service. This is basically just a supplement for me.

This is a good addition. Just add The Wonder Years and I'll have enough nostalgia to last me a while.

and all of the star trek films have been added over the last while... now if they could just pull off adding some the series-

I could see them adding Enterprise, DS9, or Voyager, but I would think The original series and The Next Generation still do well in DVD sales

The original Star Trek is available in HD on the US Netflix so it certainly is possible it might get added in Canada at some point.

of course we've had netflix lots longer than you guys but I know of more and more people who are ditching it lately, especially the streaming. I've had the same suggestions pop up for weeks even tho I've been watching so much stuff in different genres.
What I do like is a lot of the old tv series they have streaming, like Alfred Hitchcock and Twilight Zone.
I also ditched my cable so right now Netflix is an okay deal for me.

Same with Deadliest Catch. That makes me so damn sad.
