Rust Spot on Car - What Are My Options
So I just noticed a pea-sized rust spot on my driver's side door now and I'm a bit unsure of what my options are.
The car is only 3 1/2 years old so I'm a bit PO'ed that it's rusting already... Are there any easy (re: cheap) cover-up solutions? Do I need to get the whole door repainted?

Check to see the warranty on the car, most have 5+ year body rust warranty. Although in some cases its only for perforations.

My face is a bum!

I'm pretty sure some cars even have 10 year corrosion. Total BS on a 3.5 year old car.

Rust really isn't much of an issue anymore. The metal must be galvinized or something now. It won't spread, just dab some touch up paint on it. I get lots of rock chips and none of them seem to do anything. (Dodge truck)

Ugh dont use touchup paint, it looks awful, especially on rust.

Yeah....dabbing touchup paint on a car 3 1/2 years old is a pretty bad idea. Not only will it look bad, but the touchup paint won't match 100% and as soon as the sun comes out it will stick out like a sore thumb.

Haha, I knew it. As soon as you find a rust spot on a Mazda, get rid of it. For some reason, they have 80's-level rust proofing.

Well it should be covered up to keep air/salt away from the bare metal. I'm assuming it's a rock chip.
Get the door refinished if you're really picky. There's no cheap fix.

Just called Sunridge. Apparently perforation is covered by Mazda Canada for 5 years, but head office has to approve it.. so I have to take my vehicle in and get pictures taken and have them sent off.
Good to know, in case there are any other Mazda 3 owners out there (and I'm sure there's lots).
Otherwise I guess I'm looking at body shops. Any ideas how much it would cost to get a door re-finished?

It has rust "thru" (as in a hole) to be covered.

I recently bought a used 2003 Civic Coupe witch came with some pretty bad rust spots on each other the doors, right near the bottom corner. Does Honda take care of rust, as in do they cover the cost of repair?

Those are the type of questions you should be asking before you buy a rust-bucket. For your sake I sure hope it was dirt cheap.

On a 9 year old car? No way in hell.
Ive actually had some really good luck, all my Fords have no rust.
Mazdas and old Hondas are really bad for rust.
