so a lot of gamblers right now like the Oilers chances this year, hence them betting on the Oilers thus decreasing the odds...

thanks for proving my point

I think you're being obtuse, but still, I don't think you understand what that means.

For example, gamblers are currently betting on McGregor, thus decreasing the gambling odds. That does not affect the actual odds of the event happening.

I'll explain it to you... Say Vegas was going to take bets on the result of a coin flip, a bunch of devoted fans of "heads" bet on heads at even money... Vegas would then adjust the odds on "tails" to pay out more then a bet on heads would until the bets on tails covered the bets on heads.

The actual probability of heads or tails winning never changed. Vegas makes it's sports book money off the Vig.
In fairness I think we're splitting hairs here. 'Vegas' doesn't say anything, the odds just mean that a lot of people are betting on Edmonton. Whether they are informed bettors or not is a question. But it's common in every sport that people equate vegas odds with probability - an incorrect interpretation but not ridicule-worthy

I especially love how he brings up points, is roundly disproven, abandons those opinions and it's just on to the next one.

Well why didn't you mention that in the first place?!

Who could refute the expert hockey knowledge of "a lot of gamblers"?

Oiler fans and the Oilers hype machine is why people are betting on the Oilers

Nobody honestly thinks they are the 2nd best team in the NHL. They had the top Stanley Cup odds in round 2 last year...better than the Pens or Caps. The Oilers have a lot of delusional fans/followers is the point. Besides, explain to me how they are not a worse team this season?

The current betting odds for McGregor (+300) and Mayweather (-500)

Most sane people would tell you McGregors chances are closer to 20:1 than 3:1, but people are betting like crazy on McGregor.

Interesting as my site gives me -400 on Mayweather. Time to bet heavy!

As i just posted in the fight thread, I wouldn't put too much money on Mayweather, he is going through some super huge personal problems. Macgregor might win!

Or he might be so angry at the slight that he goes off of the WWE style agreed upon script and knocks Mcgregor out in 60 seconds.

Then they can have a dressing room slap fight where McGregor screams "You actually hit me and didn't pull your punch you wanker"

The whole promotion the past two weeks has been about making you believe that Mcgregor has a chance. If the whole thing has a rigged feel to it no one was going to buy it.

McGregor has better odds to win then real boxers did.

I'm predicting McGregor gets frustrated and kicks him in the head getting DQ'd

The sharp money should start pouring in on Mayweather now though. You aren't going to do much better at 1:4 or 1:5.

Lots of suckers around this fight, but with a $500 million purse - Mcgregor and Mayweather are not two of them!

No chance. There are strict penalties in place that would see him forego a huge percentage of his split if he gets DQ'd for illegal blows.
